So much for not wearing my seatbelt anymore.

You do not want to hit this glass with any body part, much less your noggin.
There is no type of glass that I would smash with my face.

According to Motor Trend, Elon said the windshield could stop a 9mm round. I think this is likely due to its angle.

From Motor Trend:
”Apparently, the Cybertruck may also have a bulletproof windshield. Tesla chief Elon Musk says the laminated windshield, which appears to be completely flat, will stop a 9mm round, as well. We tested its strength by dropping weighed metal spheres from various heights. It didn't break.”

Like I said, I rewatched the entire section of the reveal and he never said that. I recommend that, instead of going by Motor Trend's "apparently" statement, everyone that is interested go watch the reveal and decide for yourself what he said. I do not think he has said anything more since.

Kind of looks like a mashup between Model 3 and Mustang, but yeah. No doubt that drawing was Mustang inspired.

You’re correct that he did not say that on stage. However, Motor Trend met with him and Franz behind the scenes at the design studio in September 2019. That was 8 weeks prior to the November unveil, as stated in their other article. I have no way to verify if he actually said that to the journalist, but the article claims he did.

Also on his more recent Joe Rogan podcast appearance, he stated that the glass was bulletproof to a handgun when the topic was brought up. Granted, he may have misspoke, and instead meant the stainless steel doors.

That being said, I cannot take a firm stance either way on whether or not the windshield will indeed stop any type of 9mm handgun round. I have not seen any tests or calculations taking into account the composition, layers and effective thickness due to angle of the final production glass. It’ll be interesting to see some controlled tests at some point, starting with even smaller rounds like in this video, which shows how a regular windshield performs.

Hopefully any sort of hypothetical bullet resistance will never be needed in real life, but I am happy about its increased resistance to cracking, road projectile penetration, and even wildlife strikes.

Impact with a normal windshield typically does not turn out well either.

Saying the CT windshield is bulletproof was a great disservice to future customers.
As noted before.
Every dumbass with a gun will try to prove it.
I could even foresee some folk suing Tesla over this when they get shot through the glass.
So I guess they better make dern sure it IS bulletproff. LOL!

Also depends on the type of round and some of the characteristics of the gun.
Eg. hollow point, grain weight of the bullet, teflon coatings, barrel length, etc.

Bold prediction... Demolition Ranch on YouTube will put the Tesla CT windows to the test! Haha!

*Totally* agree. Especially being in Texas where people will take that as an invitation to test it out.
There goes the dream of my friend who is planning to overtake every truck he sees on the Texas highway with his personalized California license plate saying: EatMyJoules (which I said nobody in Texas will understand what a joules is anyways).:p
