Picked up the Cyberbeast in mid September and drove it around 2,000 miles.

I honestly don’t remember if this behavior existed earlier on but there was this one time while running FSD on the HOV lane, when I tapped the pedal to accelerate and FSD freaked out, started rattling and demanded I take over and drive.

Since then, it seems like whenever I hit 85mph or faster, the vehicle starts violently shaking like I hit a huge pot hole or something… even on good roads.

I know it’s probably not normal and I already have a Service appt setup, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Update 1: Narrowed this down to deceleration, not acceleration. (e.g. After I hit 85+ mph and let go of the accelerator from higher speeds down to 84 mph, the vehicle shakes violently until it gets below 85 mph)

Update 2: Thanks for talking this through with me guys. TL;DR I treated it like a software problem, did the double clickwheel reboot and the problem is now fixed.

Since the rattling for attention only happened while in FSD, I suspected that it was a coded behavior and for whatever reason the behavior did not clear out even out of FSD. I rebooted the CB today and took it up past 90 mph and it was smooth as silk coming back down to < 85mph. Glad to hear this one didn't require a service visit.

To reproduce behavior:
  • Put the vehicle in FSD
  • Manually push the accelerator until vehicle is above 85mph (you will get the takeover now warning along with the violent rattling)
  • Take vehicle out of FSD
  • Push vehicle past 85mph; you will notice the same rattling as the vehicle come back down below 85mph
  • Reboot Cybertruck via the two click wheels
  • Vehicle should no longer rattle while decelerating from > 85mph

Keep us Beast owners posted after your service app……I have had mine up to 90mph without the symptoms you experienced.

Just tested this again...

Narrowed this down to deceleration, not acceleration. (e.g. After I hit 85+ mph and let go of the accelerator from higher speeds down to 84 mph, the vehicle shakes violently until it gets below 85 mph)

Are you aware FSD doesn't support speeds over 85 MPH and will disable itself for the rest of the drive cycle?

I had my front drive unit replaced in my beast. Wouldn’t go past 114mph.

Now with the new front drive unit the car has a loud metal shriek sound above 85mph

Taking it back in

I'm surprised they replaced it. I thought 114 is currently a software limitation, not hardware. Were you able to go past it after replacement?

Only when decelerating at high speed would make me check regen on motor. I haven’t looked but maybe there’s an option to disable regen to test.

Nope.
Just drove from ATL to NOLA hitting 90 at times. FSD was not disabled the remainder of the drive. Simply renegaged.

Confirmed by engineering in Austin that it is not a firmware problem. This is a recall Tesla is sliding under the radar.

It’s an issue with the board on the inverter of the motor.

Only fix is a front drive unit replacement
