But maybe someone on here has some info, so here it goes. Extended battery time. With Toyota's solid state battery getting a lot of attention. How likely would you all guess it is we might, maybe , hopefully be able to have the extended range battery as a solid state option. And, or possible aftermarket extended battery option?

1. Toyota has been talking about their Solid State Battery for 8 years now and it's never come to fruition.
2. Tesla won't be offering a SS battery anytime soon.
3. Highly unlikely a 3rd party option will be available that integrates.

and now Elon/Trump will wipe out $7500 EV incentive to Hybrids and Toyota have to go back to the drawing board. Toyota's Zen mode will be over soon.

The incentive will be wiped out for all battery vehicles. That's more harmful to Tesla than anyone. Especially with the amount of BEV credits they get from other manufacturers in the US.

I know SCTesla says this will never happen. But at this point all I hope for is the extended battery will really be a battery upgrade/swap. If not, no biggie. But ya gotta dream.

I say that because people have been hoping for that since 2012. Back then everyone said "in the next 5 years battery replacements will be half the price", but they haven't reduced at all and third-party batteries (like the one tested on the MS in 2018) have never made it to market.

Most say because Tesla won't allow it, but whatever the reason, it hasn't happened yet.

Interesting, I didn't even know third parties had even considered that. And I agree, it's highly unlikely.

A company, called ONE, installed a battery in a Model S in like 2020 and it was able to drive over 500 miles, but all the things I could find about why it didn't ever come to the market is that Tesla wouldn't allow the UI, BMS, etc to work with the third-party. It looks like they make their own platform and packs for BMW now.

It's actually a major benefit to Tesla long term, because although now it artificially boosts some sales at Tesla, other companies cannot compete without it.

It's one of the thing Trump ran on and Elon has said numerous times that he supports it.
He said he supports it, IF they also remove the gas subsidies.

And I want a car that runs off of of the air. But then cars would use all the air up?

Tesla batteries, nor do I really think anyone's have added 50% capacity in the same space.

I really don’t care any more. I had an opportunity to buy a Cybertruck and I did. Battery factories in Red or Blue states; I don’t care if they ever open. People make decisions for their own reasons; often not thinking beyond their own noses, and they should be satisfied with the outcomes because of that (namely that they got to decide for themselves).

I put money down for the RE and if Tesla actually makes one I will decide then whether I need/want it still.

I remain unconvinced that the solid state battery will ever be produced in quantity for a reasonable price. Even if so, Tesla may very well have a competitive 4680 before that happens.
