fair enough, but offering a relatively inexpensive lease isn't a sign of strong demand.
It's the best selling EV truck in the world. The rest are not even close. Tesla is gearing up for a record-breaking 2025. No other EV pickup can compete.

I'm not surprised you think Jalopnik (and that article in particular) passes for legitimate journalism.
Jalopnik is absolute trash! The tunnel does everything it’s supposed to do. It’s also being expanded to the airport. ?

I never said or think that there is a strong demand. Just that the place in line calculator is a bunch of crap. That's all.

Excellent!

And once they have the tunnel working smoothly with human drivers, they will start streaming out of the factory autonomously! If that doesn't make front-page news, the media is even more hopeless than I assumed.
Not so sure. You normally need to calibrate the system for a 30miles or so before you can used autopilot or FSD

Maybe they have a way around that.

Good point but I think a pre-programmed mode that calibrates as it exits the factory (well enough to drive through a tunnel) would do the trick here. The only reason it takes 10-30 miles to self-calibrate is because the driving environment is not always conducive to calibrating. They can have a safe area with painted lines that will calibrate well enough to drive through a tunnel and park.

Good to see this forum is alive and (un)well as ever!
It seems that without an exoskeleton the legs have finally fallen off that horse. :p

All I want for Christmas is that Tesla adds in non-Tesla DC chargers into their nav or a button to precondition before arrival. We have a few DC chargers on the route now but we only get 80-90kW instead of 150kW. But hey I suppose I shouldn't complain seeing the 400mile trip only costs us USD $15 now.

Tesla doesn't seem to be in a rush to flood the market with trucks they are selling at a loss.
Tesla increased their revenue per vehicle this year. Wouldn't be possible if they were losing money per vehicle on the Cybertruck.

What i don't follow is how do TESLA goes from millions of reservations to being caught up in under a year now offering cheap leases.
You really thought everyone that put down a $100 refundable reservation would buy a $100K truck? I hope you don't work in sales and marketing.
Simple: The reservations were for the averaged price truck. Not for a $100k truck.

The Foundation Series was for a truck 50% more than the average truck. Apparently, only about 3% of buyers were okay with that.

I do not argue that its features don't match a truck that expensive - this is about the cap of people willing to buy one last month.

Leave With Pay!
If possible you move labor around to other lines.
If possible a few go home with out pay.
When the entire line is down and needs to change to other or lesser models you cant just have work force stand around. That is a kill zone for business.
Leave with pay, Only happens when you stop all lines.
The next step is a lay off notice.
Those line workers train and certify on specific vehicles, and they don't rearrange lines like that to start producing a completely different platform.

It's normal to reconfigure production lines during the end of the year, when a ton of people want to spend more time with their family anyway.

Yep and truth is, Tesla has no idea what the TAM numbers are for this controversial and unusual vehicle. Certainly the 500K/year numbers and even half that are unrealistic without dropping the prices 20%. A "traditional" truck buyer is not their market even with the political shift.

Ugh, I just lost a few brain cells by reading through this thread. People are really weird, with some saying, "Aha - see, the Cybertruck sucks and has zero demand losers!!" And others saying, "Every time some rag writes something I don't like I need to get super defensive!!"

People who are here just to express dislike of Tesla and/or the Cybertruck, kindly GTFO immediately.

People who are here for the right reasons (i.e., you either love discussion Tesla and/or Cybertruck, or you're looking for info about one or both), just point and laugh at the stupids posting articles from rags like BI or Jalopnik. No need to engage at length and drive up views of their stupidity.

Mods: please don't be afraid to close threads that are clearly just pointless off-topic arguments between the above two factions. For those who use the What's New link to keep track of the latest, it becomes super-annoying that trolling garbage takes up the top of the list.

It's pretty difficult to have a meaningful discussion when people are injecting hit pieces about what is clearly a very successful transportation system in Las Vegas.

If people didn't push false narrative, using obvious hit pieces as supporting evidence, this back and forth would not be necessary.

You should ask the mods to get rid of off-topic content rather than giving them views.
