I have never owned a Tesla so just wondering how does the delivery work or do we need to fly out to Texas? (which I actually wouldn't mind lol)

I never owned a Tesla either but there is a ton of Youtube videos of the process. There is home delivery and pickup. This guy picked up:

I live 5 miles from a service center. My first Tesla was delivered to my door. For the second I was asked to go to the service center and pick it up. In either case you sign some papers and Bob's your uncle.

I've never owned either and surely wouldn't mind flying to Texas to take delivery. It certainly will be interesting to see how it works. From my understanding, in the past Tesla has delivered to owners close to the production facility and then branched out from there. However, who knows if that will change this time around because Tesla still can't deliver vehicles made in Texas to Texans. Does it make more sense to deliver to Texans if you have to take the trucks to Oklahoma first?

I wish I could pick up the Truck in Texas and drive it back to Canada, but that just makes it a lot more complicated for me.

In states where Tesla can't sell my understanding is that they put the vehicle on a truck and drive to your house or work place.

For my CT, I should have Tesla hire me as a "delivery contractor" for $1 so that I can pick it up at the factory, drive it to Louisiana, and then back to the factory for them to deliver to me.

While I wouldn't mind delivery or Texas for my CT, I was glad I got my model 3 at the service center. In my case, there was a local Tesla owners club volunteer who have me a debrief and pre-a bunch of FAQ. It's a car so it's not like you can't drive the thing off the lot of get it delivered. I'm glad some things were pointed out like automatic windshield wipers, user profile setup in car as well as the app, and the one thing I still haven't figured out... how softly to close the console so it stays shut. Occasionally I still get the pop-up that says chill out dude but I think I got it now.

I'd look to see if there's a local Tesla owners club. https://engage.tesla.com/pages/clubs

There are as bunch of other little things like farts sounds, carioke, entertainment system, owners manual, wifi connection. I'm guessing they are in YouTube videos but nice to have someone show you exactly where. How to close the frunk correctly was also nice to learn in person.

I believe Elon has said CT pickup at the factory in TX would be possible. That’d be my option. Make a vacation out of it. Fly down from Seattle, pick it up and then road trip back home.

This depends on what state or country you live in. In Nebraska (where I live) Tesla is not allowed to sell cars, nor to have service centers. When I bought my Model 3 more than 3 years ago I had to go to Kansas City, Missouri to pick it up at a Service Center. I had already wired the payment ahead of time, so I just had to look over the car a little and sign some documents. Was probably out of there in 15-20 minutes. This is still the process now in Nebraska. We have tried to change the dealership franchise laws a few times, but have not succeeded yet.

I own a model 3. We ordered it online, the car was built in California, and when it was finished it was shipped to Portland Oregon. My wife and I live in Eastern Oregon, about 5 hours from the Tesla showroom and service center. We were told we had to pick up by December 23rd (2 day window) and that they would not hold it for later pick up. This part of the process was unexpectedly harsh, but my wife booked a one way flight from our nearest commuter airport to Portland and drove the car back the same day. In my limited experience, Tesla will ship the vehicle to the nearest service center and the rest is left for the customer to arrange. They do have a delivery service. But it runs fairly spendy at over $1000 in my case. It was not worth the cash and my wife enjoyed the new car and the trip.

I think Tesla changes their delivery policies periodically depending on location and circumstances. If near the end of a quarter, they want the delivery completed quickly and are much less flexible.

In my case, my first Model S in 2015 was delivered to my home as there is no store/service center nearby. In 2018 for my second Model S, I drove it to the store/service center in the Minneapolis area as I was trading it for my current Model S w/ FSD.

If I do complete my CT order, I am hoping it will be delivered to me.

Congrats on the Model 3! That experience does make me wonder if our delivery options will be different based on where in the quarter/year the delivery date happens to fall. Tesla still seems to have that funny rush-to-deliver-at-the-end thing going on. Maybe a pickup in early April will be easier on customers than one in late December.

I have a completely different question, I have read somewhere about Tesla sending you your Vin # for your Tesla truck, is that true? Second question The only thing I did was send my 100.00 no one said which truck do you want so how will they know which one I want?

But if I understood Crissa correctly and the price of delivery is figured into the price of the car, would you go to all the extra trouble and expense of flying from Seattle to Austin and driving back if you could have it delivered to your door for the same vehicle price just to see the Tesla "Disneyland"? I wouldn't. If I saved a substantial sum on "Tesla Delivery Service" I would. I do well, but I don't have money to waste. If I was passing through Austin, by all means I'd stop in and see "Elon's Wonder World" and take the wife and kiddos, but my decision to pick up my CT there wouldn't hinge on that. Not even if there was a waterpark or a Universal Studios "Back to the Future" style ride...... well, that one might get me there. It was fantastic!
