I'd imagine this would be extremely easy to do with wireless charging pads. Idk if that's still something they plan to do anytime soon.
I just pictured a Cybertruck docking like my Roomba and then cheerfully letting out a celebratory beep song.

There are other threads musing over wireless chargers too, so feel free to go digging.

Given the length of the CT this autopark feature will probably be a must for a lot of people... I just don't look forward to waiting for it to drive at .0001/mph during the winter months in CO, I'll probably buy a smart garage door closer so I can just walk inside and let it all do it's thing without having to wait 5 minutes for the damn thing to park.
You can preset a leaving time in the app and the car will prep the battery in advance for you. Should nullify that issue.

If the Tesla had a docking station similar to the Roomba, it would be pretty sweet. Park itself on the spot, initiate charging all in one go.
Hmm.... my roomba routinely dry humps walls and furniture. As an added bonus the dog got sick when we were at dinner the other night and we came home to Rosie (our roomba) smearing dog crap all over the living room.

Hopefully the CT is smarter than that :)

I use summon on my m3 all the time, especially in tight spaces where getting out after parking would be annoying. I'm sure this problem is going to be even worse for a large truck haha.

The wireless charging, as it is now, I don't think would be very popular if they did it. While it sounds convenient, it's extremely inefficient. Most of them come out to around 40-50% MORE energy used for the same charge. I.e. charging 40kwh would actually drain 60kwh from your house. Knowing that, would you use it if it was offered?

Oh yeah, they're also slow but that's not as big of an issue imo.

This is Tesla... it would probably be a celebratory fart.

Our Roomba is named Ronda. Because "Help Me Ronda..." though it seems like she's saying help me much of the time.

My Tesla is very much like my Roomba in a lot of ways. It is my robot car. They are each flawed in a few ways, but overall I'm quite happy with my small but growing robot army.

This is my impression as well. I don't need wireless myself, Tesla has demoed a robot arm that plugs the charger in. If there was a parking pad, the truck could position itself quite well for an auto-connection.

Also, the 4 wheel steering should make auto-park more accurate.

yeah that would be a good alternative. Rather than wireless charging, the "pad" simply draws the car into alignment, and then some sort of arm raises up to contact charging points on the underneath of the car. Anyway, I digress... I just hope that autopark becomes a little more fast/efficient than it seems to be right now with its slow crawling pace

Wireless charging would be awesome. Remember the old days when you had to plug in your phone? lol

If my smartphone charges 50% slower, it's often not a big deal. Seems like the Cybertruck is going to charge at around 20MPH on a 60A circuit (based on charging rate of the Model X). Slowing that down by 20%-50% (whatever loss is in wireless) seems like a not-great idea.

Plus... what happens when your cat realizes that's a nice warm place to sleep? Has anyone experimented on that?

The latest wireless-charging technology can not only charge at full speed, but with equal or even higher efficiency than wired charging. (How?? Because 50A turns cables into heater wires, proportional to length.)

The charging pads are not energized when not in use, and generally include sensors to prevent injury.

I see this as the future of urban chargers. Just put the pads under every parking space! No plugs, no adapters, nothing to break.

So the cat wanders under the car and takes a nice long nap and my car never gets charged!!

(I kid of course)

Cats can pretty much be blamed for everything. Except the Black Plague.
