Does anybody else regret upgrading their horn via software vs the physical horn?

I love the sound, but a few people mentioned to me that you can’t hear it very while in motion. I drove by my nephew and his friends the other day and honked, and when I asked them later on if they liked it, none of them said they could hear it well.

Also, I tested it this afternoon while driving behind my wife, and she said that she could not hear it. Only when I stopped at a traffic light she said that she could hear it very faintly.

The horn works well in parking lots for people, but now I regret having a normal horn for the day-to-day and while driving in motion. It could also be a borderline safety hazard when you actually need to use it on the road or highway.

When upgrading there is a disclosure that says that you cannot revert, but wondering if anyone has been able to or have had similar results?

I don’t regret it….had to use once when someone was changing to my lane and the other driver heard it and subsequently yielded. I assume like other things Tesla, there will be options in the future.

Mine is very loud, people jumping from far away and cars pulling over on front of me. They think it’s fire truck or emergency vehicle around ?

That doesn't sound right.

You should get that compared to another truck. The horn is just a speaker cone, so it could be damaged or malfunctioning.

Lots of folks complained about this early on (specifically, the first couple of folks who got the new horn in August without having a choice). It’s one of the reasons that there is no way you could get me to “upgrade.”

The other is being old enough to realize that when you have something that’s unusual/unique, you preserve it.

As soon as they said it was non-reversible, I was done even considering it. That said, I think it sounds really cool too, but if I want to play firetruck, I can do it in toy box and still have a fail proof real horn. At the very least, it seems to confuse people because they’re looking for an emergency vehicle and don’t really know what to do.

Some people on this forum stunned me by saying that they literally “never use their horn.” I use my horn several times a week! People around here drive like idiots and it is a necessary tool to keep people from colliding with my cars. I need people to realize, INSTANTLY, that I’m trying to get their attention because they’re creeping into my lane and about to sideswipe me, I don’t have time for them to be puzzled about “what’s making that noise?”

I haven’t even clicked on the damned invite out of fear that it might somehow automagically fuck up my horn just because I looked at it!

Hard pass!

I only regret it when I need to used my horn. Driving to work yesterday a car in front of me never went when we got a green turn arrow so I did a polite tap on the horn, then several, eventually I laid on the horn for about 10 seconds before they reacted and went. Not sure if was that they could not hear me or if they just didn't realize they were hearing a horn bc it don't sound like a horn.

same. I also regret updating because I use my horn from time to time in traffic or to alert someone who may be wondering into your lane.

mine is loud, but it's the tone. when you are in another vehicle you just cannot hear it as well as a regular horn.

Agree! Love the sound but it is not loud enough for other cars to hear and react.

I don’t regret switching, but I do see a few drawbacks to it.
1. It’s unique. So instead of people instantly recognizing it as a “get moving” signal, it takes them a moment to get it. It’s like there is a quick thought of “should I yield to a fire truck that is somewhere?” Thought.
2. I think the loudness is the same but the tone is lower. This does seem to make it less noticeable. I know frequency and directionality are somewhat related. Like how you can place a subwoofer anywhere in a room because the low frequency is way less directional. Maybe that is having some effect?

I don’t have enough use cases to say it’s less useful, but I would hate to have to use it in NYC where the horn is a legit, and often used tool. Seems like it may not work as well.

Overall, verdict is still out for me…

It is what it is and I hope there is an update.

for me, I hear this annoying buzzing sound inside the car and I am not sure if this is normal. I haven’t tested like the op to see if the new horn works or not.

I like the horn, but when I am jamming out inside and honk the horn, I can't hear it from inside the cabin. I've been told it is loud on the outside tho. With the old horn, I was able to hear the horn from inside the cabin while jamming out to my music.

Similar. Although I like the new sound, the never revert back meant a big "no". In addition to the reasons you stated, I like that there is an old-school wire connecting to the old-school horn that I can tap into to install any after-market horn I choose. As soon as I switch to software, I can only do what Tesla lets me. My biggest fear is one day Tesla will change it without my say so...
