100% same! They better not! I’ll sue! ?
One of the few times I have heard that and not considered it an empty threat.

Unique horns are generally a disadvantage. One time I heard my car making a chime and I start looking around my instrument cluster trying to figure out what that sound was. It was the same sound as when a door is open or you drive without a seat belt. Turns out I had accidently cut off a motorcycle and they were laying into the horn, it took me a good 10 seconds to figure it out.

I havent tested the new CT horn from the outside yet, I will do that today. However one thing I believe is happening is the sound is also coming out of the speakers inside the cabin. It makes it very hard to judge how loud it is outside.

I love it! I recently discovered that the grille holes for the horn speaker (located in front of the right front wheel) were obstructed with ice. I used a round pointed wooden stick to clear the ice from the holes. This is something to check periodically in cold climates as it could easily get plugged up by driving through deep snow thereby muffling the horn.

So let me get this all straight:

1. It may or may not be softer, less directional and generally harder to hear.

2. It 100% confuses people and therefore is less effective as an actual warning.

3. It permanently negates your ability to throw on a third-party horn.

AND

4. Now I gotta do some weird ice hole stick maintenance?

Yeah, my instincts are undefeated. OG horn for life!!! Literally. ?

Never one moment of hesitation in upgrading, and no regrets whatsoever. It is a perfect match for the truck, and very loud. I always thought the regular horn sound was ill-fitting for this truck of the future.

Stand in front of the vehicle to hear the horn. It is very loud. The sound is dampened when heard from inside the vehicle.

Everyone around you hears it quite clearly. They may be startled by an air horn since they are looking at cars. The solution is for us to all use our horns more to train others.

This literally ignores everything that the gentleman above explained about people not being able to hear the horn OUTSIDE of his car.

Facts have to be faced. Perhaps they can be explained, but they can’t be ignored.

They are roughly the same loudness when measured. I think it's likely that most aren't expecting that kind of horn and aren't listening for it.

Still an issue, but I don't think it's due to volume.

Yeah, I followed closely all of the posts where those measurements were being discussed and taken. I’m just pointing out that the user who rekindled this discussion said that multiple people couldn’t hear it as he drove by. I’m not sure if that’s a Doppler thing or frequency or what, but I don’t think it can be completely discounted without examination.

I honk at my wife when I pass her and she says it's startling, but she knows what it is.

I do agree that it's not the best horn for the purpose of a horn, to alert drivers for safety reasons, but I figure the vehicle itself is ridiculous and illogical, the horn should be, too.

? I totally agree with that and I really bear you “new horns” no ill will! But, not unlike @HaulingAss i’m a very skilled driver. I’ve had exactly 0 at fault accidents and avoided more than I can count including a car rolling over in front of me with my family in the vehicle. So, I’ll put my driving skills up against anybody any day and I will tell you right now a non-ambiguous functioning horn is a mission critical tool where I live. I’m not out here with farm and woodland creatures! I’m out here with people that statistically suck more than just about anywhere. I have to do all the driving for them and me and a “fun” horn is not going to get the job done.

As much as I think the new horn is cool, I’m glad that I got my car before they changed it and would never switch.

Does anybody else regret upgrading their horn via software vs the physical horn?

I love the sound, but a few people mentioned to me that you can’t hear it very while in motion. I drove by my nephew and his friends the other day and honked, and when I asked them later on if they liked it, none of them said they could hear it well.

Also, I tested it this afternoon while driving behind my wife, and she said that she could not hear it. Only when I stopped at a traffic light she said that she could hear it very faintly.

The horn works well in parking lots for people, but now I regret having a normal horn for the day-to-day and while driving in motion. It could also be a borderline safety hazard when you actually need to use it on the road or highway.

When upgrading there is a disclosure that says that you cannot revert, but wondering if anyone has been able to or have had similar results?
Then you didn’t do the actual update. It sounds like you selected a new horn sound on the truck menu and those only work when in Park. The real and permanent horn update is done by responding to a message about it in the app. It’s loud and doesn’t matter if you’re parked or driving.

But that negates the fact that he’s saying they couldn’t hear it while he was in motion. Because if he did and he didn’t do the update it would’ve been the old horn.
