I simply guessed at 16 square feet (2304 square inches) x 10 PSI. is 23004 lbs. of force. Divided by 2200 is 10.5 metric tons. So you are right. Closer to 7 PSI. That might even be head pressure from the vat of molten metal.

Basically a swag.

The pressure the part is cast under is actually vacuum, so that the molten metal gets into all the spaces and impurities aren't drawn in before it sets.

The surface area of the molten metal pushes out on the mold plates, hence needing the extra weight to keep it closed.

It isn't, in fact, alot of pressure per square inch, but adds up. Also... it's molten metal.

that's awesome as I'm the Trimotor also... glad to hear it still seems to be on the table ! that begs the question - what's the Quad upgrade?
ie. Quad motor. We don't know what is happening with that. Last we heard was that the QUAD motor would be the first version built/delivered to Customers.

Which means what for Tri-Motor order holders?

My guess is:
If they do build the Cybertruck, and, they do start with a Quad Version, if you have reserved a Tri-motor you are bumped further back with your wait. If they build just Quads in 2024, they maybe you get a Tri-motor in 2025.

If this happens people with tri motor reservations will get first right of refusal to upgrade.

Did Tesla say that, or you are thinking that is what they might do. (It does make sense what you are saying).

I am still somewhat skeptical on the Cybertruck happening before the decade is over, but if it does, here will be the issue:

"Yes sir, you can upgrade to the Quad motor, and maintain your place in line. The Quad version will be $99,000. "

There was a rumor the Tri-Motor would be dropped if they do come out with a Quad motor, so I guess you upgrade to the Quad, or drop down to a Dual motor? Still sever more years away, so there will be plenty of time to sort it all out.

And quad motor buyers come from where?

Most likely Tesla is going to open up their config tool to people based on RN. Maybe the only option at first is upgrading to quad. Maybe there will be other choices, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to open up a new pre order queue for quad motor Reservations.

Yes, Quad motor buyers will come from Tri-Motor buyers. Especially if they announce they will no longer make the Tri-Motor. Which is quite possible.

I also think there is zero chance they ever make a single motor version. But that is just a guess.

Note, the price of the Quad motor can be anything Tesla wants to make it...since it is technically a "new model". Based on what Rivian is charging and what Hummer is charging, I think the Quad will certainly be above $85,000. Maybe $95,000?

Hopefully they do it by order number, not options.

Previously they prioritized deliveries based on location. They wanted to get as many cars delivered as fast as they could to help the bottom line. I don't know if that is still as high a priority as it used to be. Their bottom line is in much better shape now. I live in Texas, so I hope location is still a priority. But we will see.

If Tesla starts off only selling the Quad motor for the first year or so, what is your best guess for price.

$85,000 would be reasonable in my eyes. The fantasy price of $69,000 for the Tri-Motor is dead. That was a projection from back in 2019. Inflation is on a tear. Plus the Quad is going be at least $10,000 more than the Tri-Motor.
