Not even need for trains.

Self-driving Semis will cost practically nothing to deliver to a pickup point. The cars will(should) load and eventually unload themselves to a point managed on the app.

I'm even expecting cars to drive on and off ships by themselves.

So, really, Cybertruck should just show up in my driveway a little over a year from now.
NICE.

just for reference......there are 3 giga presses for the Y now.....still working on them...ok......but how long did it take to get the first one up and running to produce parts that were acceptable.......I am sorry, I just cant see how jul/aug will happen if they are here by late April / May......even that is a stretch.....but I hope you are right and I am wrong
It took 2 months to get it set up and making castings. For each of them.

but how long did it take to get a good first article and certify the machine
Didn’t get a memo from Tesla on that.

As of right now though, Tesla has ~9 months to get it installed and dialed in and still hit a January start. We know it takes less than that.

Seems like we get a new one every 2-3 months so another is due soon. If the next one isn’t the 8K ton press then we’ll have 1 finally chance in June/ July for the 8K ton delivery.

They have talked about stamping an entire car frame in one piece Intuitively this would make something larger than a CT rear casting, but maybe not much larger, unless it was somehow simpler. Maybe this is it? I would love a freeway safe 4 seater EV. Besides Polestar and Volvo who else has talked about adopting megacasting?
It’s probably more likely that they want to show off their massive, cool product before they ship it to the other side of the world. I doubt they will keep a prototype of it on hand.

I think all Polestars are made in China. Both Volvo & Polestar are now owned by China based Geely.

Several other Chinese auto companies are also buying megacasting systems.

NIO & XPeng Order Die-Casting Machines
NIO and XPeng are the latest customers for high pressure die-casting machines from Idra. By Steve Hanley

Chinese part supplier orders super die-casting machines from Tesla partner, could NIO and Xpeng adopt one-piece manufacturing?
Guangdong Hongtu Technology (GHT), a part supplier to Chinese EV automakers like NIO and XPeng, announced it will begin developing a 12,000-ton die-casting unit with the help of Tesla supplier LK Technology. Recent responses from representatives at NIO and XPeng hint that they might soon be using GHT’s large, one-piece die-casting machines to manufacture their own EVs.

January 1st, 2023? Hmmm.

Much more likely summer 2023....hopefully not fall of 2023.

I’m not predicting anything at this point.

We still don’t have a Giga press.

When we see that plus a few finished looking trucks rolling around we’ll know it’s close

Polestar is owned by Geely, but they have factories in the US and Europe, where they've always had factories.

-Crissa
Not yet. No Polestar EV is yet built in a U.S. or European factory. There has been an an announcement of future production of Polestar 3 EV in U.S. but no cars yet.

It is easy to confuse today's Polestar branded and Volvo branded vehicles.

Polestar 2 EVs being sold today in U.S. & Europe are made in China.

Made In China: The Polestar 2 is made at Geely and Volvo "super factory" in Luqiao, China, along with the Volvo XC40 and the Lynk & Co 01.

A new electric car, from a new electric car company. Polestar was once Volvo’s racing skunkworks, but it’s morphed into a standalone electric offshoot, jointly owned by Volvo and its Chinese mothership, Geely. Its cars are built in China, to be sold worldwide.
