I honestly never understood the issue with Tesla's and the roofs. I read in reviews all the time that the glass roof was hot in the Summer. I HATE heat I live in GA but often travel to Florida in the Summer. I have never had any issues at all, the HVAC has never had issues keeping up, I never feel heat coming through on my head. It feels no different than a solid roof to me, what am I missing here?

My '26 surprisingly let in very little heat from the overhead glass. Now the windshield on the other hand.. had to get that bad boy tinted it was pretty brutal.

I don't know how people living outside of Seattle go without tinted windshields.
I'd definitely have that done on my CT if it wasn't illegal here. Had to literally pull tint off myself on the MY and my Maverick when they got inspected even though it was hardly noticeable... Imagine having to do that on the huge ass CT windshield!

its only likely illegal if you go below nearly clear vlt, but thats not what’s gonna keep your car cool. I got 70 vlt on my windshield with max uv blocking and it makes a huge difference

Windshield and Prohibited Tint Types
No vehicle, regardless of type, may have aftermarket tint applied to the windshield below the AS-1 line or below five inches from the top, whichever leaves less tinted area. Most people think of this as a thin sun-strip along the top edge. Even drivers with a medical exemption cannot tint lower on the windshield.

Ask me how I know...

And then, ask me how much it sucks removing tint from a windshield of a Model Y. (I remember I did NOT have it on my Maverick but we DID have to pull it off both our front windows in addition to the MY windshield... We even had them tinted "legal" for Maryland back when we were in Nebraska. 35%... But, nope. They were 37.2-38.4% probably due to the factory window natural tint.

So, beware fellow CT'ers who want to be legal but still tinted!

My state of MA wrote the law that anything on the windshield below the line is not allowed, but you can probably get away with 70 VLT. Still, the inspection people would damage it when removing or placing your sticker.

My Aug 2025 production works with Starlink under the roof, but I do see 30% speed decreases plus it kills rear headroom, and so I mounted it outside.

You're not missing anything. It's just the anti-Tesla forces at work trying to steer people away from buying some of the most practical new cars on the planet. Their normal mode of operation is to figure out where Tesla's first principles thinking diverged from legacy auto, and then try to associate that difference with negative things, real or imagined. Anything different is barraged with never-ending complaints from people trying to cast shade on the cars

I love the glass roofs and the larger airy feeling it creates in the cabin. Even vehicles with metal roofs get hot enough to kill when parked in the sun.

This doesn't matter to me because I park in a garage and leave on "cabin overheat protection," which makes the car never get hot inside.

Does anyone remember how hot your gas car would be when it had been running on/off as you stopped at different destinations and had nowhere to park but in the direct sun?

There would be the solar heat gain in addition to all the engine bay heat soaking through the firewall. And no way to pre-cool the cabin before you had to get in again!

(cue all the people telling us they had remote start in their gas car)

I went ahead and put the Expel tint on the windshield, if you get it through Tesla, they will replace it if the windshield needs to be replaced. In Arizona, makes a huge difference. I went with the 70, so not too dark but a dramatic improvement.

Great! Did they happen to test it?
not to my knowledge, they just knew. I suppose they could have just not wanted to do it. I did all the windows and windshield with max uv blocking and it made a huge difference.
