Interesting reasoning. I would think that if, in the vast majority of states (your numbers) something is illegal then the safe thing to say is that it is illegal with some special exclusions, and that you better not leave those jurisdictions with the device functional. Call me a Boy Scout (and I certainly follow the law in all cases, and expect others to do the same in a civil society), but I would rather someone use the short wave radio example and not tell me about their [mostly illegal] radar detector.
I've not once ever met somebody that follows all laws. I do no want to live in a society where everbody follows all the laws. That society would not be civil I feel sure.

And I know many boy scouts.

Drivers get really angry when an FSD-driven Tesla comes to a complete stop at intersections

Tesla sells a vehicle-powered air compressor as part of its tire repair kit. It uses a standard 12v plug, so I wonder if they will include an adaptor for the CT. If you buy a small 120v compressor, make sure you bring an extension cord to reach the wheel.

The video showed 3 places for 48v. Front, roof. Bed.
But there has to be 12v on back trailer light hookups. Can't use them. I found small 48v to 12v inverters that will work. Look on ebay. They r for golf cart lighting.

They are illegal in like two out of the 50 states so I would say they are not illegal
i would have thought for sure California would tell you no to radar detectors, but i was surprised it was DC and Virginia that they are illegal in .. Go figure :p

My Radar Detector (which is legal in my state and almost every state, and has nothing to do with breaking laws), happens to use USB-C, so it's no problem for me. But, for anybody that wants to run normal 12v things, there are things like this that might do what you need (probably not going to power your ham radio equipment)

They are legal here. I don't use one. That was just an example. I'm more interested in powering ham radio equipment.
Is your equipment 12v by default? You could wire a step down converter in the frunk and drive it off the frunk 48v system. Then pull your 12v wires into the cab and power whatever you want.

With the Boy Scouts history of umm…..doing illegal things to kids I’m not sure that’s a good example of NOT breaking the law. ??

I removed rear view and poked around for 12v power and had no luck. I am also looking for a way to mount my mostly legal Uniden R8.

Keep us in touch if you find a connection point, I can’t drive without a radar (no Boy Scout here ?)

Yea power up there would be nice for an aftermarket digital rear view mirror that is needed with the current visibility.

They're useless, California didn't even use radar until the late 80s. CHP do courses in speed recognition or at least, they used to.

They are illegal in Virginia and I cannot remember the other state, but considering out of 50 only two means they are primarily legal devices, especially for those that never even go into those states at all
Used to be CT, they were the last holdout besides VA. As far as I know, VA is the only place.
