I keep telling people it's not the intense cold that's the worst. It's that stuff that's flipping around the freezing point.

I couldn’t agree more. Given the choice of -10ºF to -20ºF or 25ºF to 35ºF I’ll take the negative numbers.

My Cybertruck's summer job is gonna be Mississippi River barge. Just for extra cash for its beer and smokes

Doesn't the Mississippi river have those flying carp? Seems like the CT would be really helpful as a protection from getting face slapped by fish.

You thought Cybertruck's regular towing range will be bad (50% loss), wait until you see Cybertruck's water-borne towing range !

Underrated quote from Musk.

Because it either means he doesn’t know anything about how boats work, OR it means CyberTruck comes with CyberOars.

That will depend in if your journey is upstream or downstream.
Upstream could be the case where you get stuck without a paddle. :ROFLMAO:

On water range isn't as bad as I first thought, if you keep your speed in check. Water jet propulsion can be over 60% efficient. How will the CT "hull" performs in water is another thing. I'd expect around the same range reduction, maybe a bit more than a trailer, although I think EM doesn't want us to use it in boat mode for that long. Hydrofoils is the obvious answer for more range, more speed and better sea state handling.

In order to engage boat mode, the CT will need to raise to max (16")

Then the second pack which is under the battery pack can be expanded with onboard air. the thrusters at the back of the pack can also steer.

Other bladders may inflate to reduce water ingress. ie.. door / gate seals.

Well it probably will have to put the wheels down to wade into the water, but then once it is afloat, it would probably raise the wheels to reduce drag whilst being propelled along with a electric water jet. The water jet would be a steer by wire nozzle and have a bucket, that lowers down over the nozzle allowing it to reverse, and also produce thrust 120degree to the normal nozzle output for maneuvering.

Additional floatation is maybe not necessary, but it would improve range and performance. You could have a underbody that housed an inflatable raft system, probably just a tubular pontoon on either side of the CT, and that would make the CT fairly capable, within the limits of the battery capacity it has onboard.

If it doesn't come with a electric water jet, this wouldn't be to complicated to add as a aftermarket product, consisting of a 240V VSD plugged into the rear inverter output. That should give you around 10kW (13hp) and should be good for around 3-5knots. Alternatively, a higher power version would either have to be connected to the CT pack, or carry it's own dedicated pack. But this will be range limited solution.

Yeah, I seriously doubt we're going to get 60% efficiency with tire rotation as propulsion. You may get 60% with an actual propeller, buy no way with a tire spinning under water. In fact, if the tire is totally under water, propulsion is going to be pretty minimal.

Maybe you misread?

I said water jet propulsion can be over 60ŮŞ?

Never mentioned spinning tyres as they will do next to nothing with street biased tyre treads, and only a little more with offroad tread patterns.

That being said, I just had an idea how to power proper water propulsion from the wheels mechanically seeing we have QM now. Nearly too easy.

Maybe the Cybertruck tail gate will be made of two layers. The inner layer stays up/closed and the outer layer drops down in to the water and provides propulsion using dolphin flipper up/down wave type action :)
