Theres a reason boats dont use weather stripping to maintain buoyancy
Elon didn't say it was a boat. Only that it would be buoyant for a short period of time. MAINTAIN is not required. Frequent use might require periodic weather stripping replacement.

The stripping may be there for boat mode, but it is also handy for 'normal' river crossings/flood situations.

Had that happen when my Nissan was brand new while camping. It was parked very nose down and we had some heavy rains roll through. A long screwdriver and a hammer took care of the plastic covers over the holes real quick.
