Yes

Hence, why I reckon there will be services such as 'work from home', springing up IF wrapping takes off to another level.

Charging a grand + COGS to install it over a few days would attract some customers, and be reasonable income.

That's not to say shops will lose business, they will be as busy as ever. Just a wider customer base with different needs.
All of the difficulty, e.i. labor costs, with vinyl wraps, come from negotiating curved surfaces.
None on this truck, e.i. easy install.
Every youtube video you watch focuses on stretching around non-planor surfaces.

I plan on masking mine off with strips, and rough up what is exposed with scotch brite, and then taking the masking off. And then, masking it off with strips overlayed in a different pattern, polishing other areas making a Van Halen style pattern with 3 different tones of stainless, and probably spraying a matt clear sealer on top of it.

Seems way too expensive at 8-12K. The flat surfaces should make the wrap go a little easier, not more difficult. Of course the CT is large, but most of the top will not be wrapped except the frunk, so mainly the front, sides, and tailgate are most of it.

Doesn't look like enough material or labor to justify that amount. I think the CT would be much more suited for DIY wrapping than many other cars. Just look at how easy the CT front would be to wrap, compared to a Model 3/Y fascia.

Also, CK Wraps is a very informative channel for those thinking of trying a DIY wrap.

All very good points. Also, I thought wraps would be cheaper than paint. I mean these are supposed to be top-of-the-line, self-healing, urethane wraps and all, but they’re 4X-6X as expensive as the most expensive paint option ($2,000)!!! We’re getting into FSD territory now.

While I can see your vision and think that might look cool, I'm not sure than scotchbrite and elbow grease are going to have a significant effect, if at all. Hardened 30X cold rolled Stainless MIGHT require some significant power tools to be noticeable. I'm not even sure brass brushes would do much.

Trueflly I’m worried about vandalism like scratchie, and tagging or Tesla haters trying to be menacing…..have a feeling the hater threat will be real
You are so worried that someone will hate your Tesla so much you will wrap a vehicle with expensive wallpaper to protect your stainless steel skin -- which will do more damage to the instrument of intended destruction than it will to the 3mm thick stainless steel? Not getting the logic here.

So I'm in the parking lot and I hate Teslas. I can't put door dings into your Cybertruck and trying to that has damaged my POS ICE car. I get more pissed off and whip out my car key and do my Picasso imitation on your wrap. Maybe it will tear up the PPF or not. Now your truck vandal is really mad. Breaks off BAW or pulls his pocket knife to shred the PPF. Or slice your tires; or pick up a brick to put through your windows because rumor is Tesla is now not putting Armor Glass on CT.

Point is, if someone wants to do destruction to your vehicle, they are going to do it. Putting PPF on a vehicle with very hard and thick metal seems asking for the very thing you want to avoid. If it were a normally painted vehicle or you want a vehicle that is personalized to you, then I can agree to do it, but not to protect 3mm 30x stainless steel from key scratches that buff out with a 3M pad.

Just my 2 cents.

Also... why would I pay a Tesla service center to wrap my car when I can pay experts who pretty much wrap cars all day long to do the same... not sold.

If it's a "factory wrap" for the CT, it's slightly more appealing.
This is key. It takes a few years to become an expert at wrapping cars. Service center employees typically only last a few months. With no warranty you'll have issues/peeling with the wrap probably about the same time the person who did the wrap leaves the company.

Well, tensile strength is a lot different from scratch resistance.
I've got gun parts that are coated in TiN (titanium nitride) that are EXTREMELY hard to scratch, but they are a coating over regular chrome steel.

This could be easier to scratch than you might think, unless, of course, they tungsten carbine treat the panels with tungsten carbide. But, I seriously doubt that.

You are absolutely right I might self PPF the CT but jokers here in US will test to see if your truck really is bullet proof with you in it or not, they will scratch your car and test your windows. I live in New York and stranger things happen to peoples self and property daily. It is not far fetched. I have Tesla haters show anger and hate just from my model 3, probably does not help I am aggressive driver. But I digress tons of hate is palpable at times. People hate change.

"This was a "had to wait until it was hinted at publicly before we share it" scenario, but: Tesla will offer a Cybertruck wrap service with multiple choices within six months of the first customer deliveries. There are no price confirmations yet, but it is expected to be $8-12K."

$12 grand for a wrap? I am okay paying $80K for a Cybertruck (with long range), and paying whatever my locked in FSD price was, but then another $12,000 on top of that?

How do you put patina on a stainless steel truck? Should I just get some spray paint and leave my cybertruck under an overpass which has a lot of previous graffiti, with the spray cans sitting on the hood and see what it looks like in the morning? Maybe $30 bucks for the paint?

?

The materials cost < $400 max. I've wrapped before. The flat panels could make the CT the easiest to wrap vehicle in history. There aren't even door handles or badges to work around.

Not that wrapping it makes sense.

You're covering a surface that is inherently scratch and scuff proof with something highly susceptible to scratches and scuffs.

There is no touch-up pen for a wrap. If it's damaged you need to replace the entire panel.

It also does not last forever and will eventually lift/flake/peel.

If you want to personalize the truck and have the bucks, I get it though.
Wraps.

Good advise. So, we should design our wraps so we can replace sections one at a time?!

On the DeLorean, there are horizontal (front-to-back) lines ground into the surface. Using a ScotchBrite pad can get the minor scratches aligned with the factory lines, providing a uniform appearance.

Polishing out those lines, or restoring them, requires power tools.

Hopefully quality improves, because this does not look like a $8K job (look at the closeups).

First look at the $8K factory Forest Green PPF Wrap
