We'll see what happens when Tesla starts sending out purchase requests. Will Tesla start at order #1 or will they go through and find the quad motor registrations and do those first. I'm not sure there's anything in writing that says reservations are selected in order.
no one has a reservation for a configuration

people have reservations to configure, and expressed interest in a then-available configuration

regardless, what’s really gonna blow your noodle: Tesla doesn’t even have to follow the reservation order - they’ve blown reservation order before, and that’s when the deposits were $1,000 and required people to have physically stood in line

if *that* didn’t cause Tesla to follow reservation order, these $100 online reservations are aspirational

30 is a good number, most I’ve heard from an individual is 1500 ordered. Never heard of the guy though, James Farley Jr?

It‘s rumored that a FL resident has 300 Cybertruck‘s on order.
Sure, but they'll all be in the "The Villages" with weird colored Loofah's tied to the top..... ??

I don’t think you could order a quad. It was 1,2,3 motor version orders and then they stopped letting you pick all together

Nope. The reservation literally says which configuration you picked

how you think that works?

if Tesla releases only a tri-motor, everyone with a single or double motor res… is out of luck?

if Tesla releases only a quad motor, which was never offered for configuration for reservation, then no one has a reservation?

check your reservation contract again

No one knows yet. I am saying that your statement at this time based on known information is incorrect. Both my reservation emails clearly say which configuration the reservation is for.

You just suggested that you knew, when you said ‘nope’?

You have a reservation to configure a vehicle. You’ve indicated interest in a hypothetical configuration, that at the time was expected but not guaranteed to be provided.

So, to the extent “no one knows” what is knowable is that Tesla has three options:

1. make and release at the same time each of and only a 1, 2, and 3 motor, and follow the reservation list

2. release some but not all of the original configurations, and anyone who chose the non-existent model(s) is just out of luck

3. roughly follow the reservation list, and allow people to finalize configuration of then-available models

number 3 above is basically what they’ve done in the past, if only because options 1 and 2 have a lot of baggage

I do, however, note that Tesla has in the past only nominally followed the reservation list briefly, then simply opened ordering to anyone - and they did that when people had put down a more substantive deposit than anyone has on the CT

so while I agree no one ‘knows’ what Tesla is going to do - including whether they just ignore the reservations pretty early on - the point is that nowhere is your “reservation” concretely all and only limited to the hypothetical configuration in which you expressed hypothetical interest, with no contemplation of an ability to edit that configuration

Correct, but you forgot to highlight the first sentence. Your statement that "No one has a reservation for a certain configuration" is incorrect. Availability may change in the near future and they likely will allow us to change the configuration based on what is available but we don't know any of that yet. If they can sell every CT that they can make for the next 5 years based on the current apparent demand and with the language in the contract I don't see why they would necessarily need to follow the reservations other than to not frustrate people. It would seem like the easiest way would be to take large shipments to different regions and get them to customers local to those regional locations but who really knows.

I didn’t

I just read the rest of the sentence and provision

It does not say you have access to only the configuration you choose long ago

You know, we do have some history with how Tesla does this based on four previous vehicle launches. Once the vehicle is available to order, and once the available and planned configurations are defined and publicized, they will:
1) tell everyone which configurations are available at launch and which will be available later
2) let employees order first to work out bugs
3) go in order through the reservation queue for everyone in the launch geographies and send an email asking if they would like to configure
4) give you the option to defer until your preferred configuration becomes available
5) allow you to change your mind and order if you get tired of waiting
6) notify you if your preferred configuration gets cancelled (e.g. RWD LR Model Y) and give you a chance to order an alternative
7) go in order of reservations once a new geography opens up

We do not know if they will follow precedent, but one assumes they will.
