For me fixing stuff is the norm. It's like I'm Joe fix it all, I have a line of stuff in the workshop from various people that needs attention. The only thing I haven't been successful at fixing is Apple products. So I stopped buying them. That fixed that problem.

I actually also need to fix my wiper pump on our farm hack. Dry season is coming and with it dust.

Had to order a clock spring from the UK to fix a Fiat with a Airbag light on. $900 and two months ex Italy from the dealer. $150 new ebay uk.

We (many of us) have already established that legacy auto is skewed to try and make (or scam) money from recurring service appointments, due to their business model sacrificing their (would be) margins - to the process outsider overhead costs of expensive media advertising, dealer associations/networks, and unions. So with their margins on each sale nearly gone when the car leaves their lot, their only (corrupt) outlook is to try and get (scam) money from inflated recurring service costs or parts.

This has been obvious actually for at least the past thirty years, and that's why Tesla's business model focusing on the substance and innovation of their cars, is such a breath of fresh air for consumers who appreciate that integrity with Tesla's techology.

I'm sure Tesla will have some excessive high prices on some of their parts too, but I've also seen some Tesla parts priced quite reasonably. I think the key difference is that Tesla isn't trying to make their service and parts as a major source of their revenue, and I see the incidence of a Tesla part being needed, occuring a lot less often or more infrequently than in a comparable ICE car. So I think this is one of the key benefits of owning a Tesla.

I agree, i am mechanically gifted, i am also old and not able to get under a car. Like i said, its just silly to have to pull the 27 '- 7mm bolts, 2 - 10mm, 8 body pins, pull the front bumprr and grill to replace a $4 dc pump. Oh, and my quote is from an independent which ive trusted before and shoots straight. AND, im done buying new cars from the fraud specilist called Dealerships. Ready for my CT.
I thought the windshield cleaner fluid pump was attached at the Botton of the windshield reservoir

It’s really important for me to be able to work on my vehicle. This has been a concern of mine going into owning a CT. I bought my Tacoma (best truck ever)in 2001 and I’ve visited a mechanic less then ten times (apart from tires, smog, and alignment). I’m not a mechanic but I’ve done most of the service/repairs myself. So, not including body damage from accidents, what sort of things need to be repaired/serviced on EV’s? Are they rolling computers? I don’t even own a computer. Is an iPhone a computer? Someone mentioned that Tesla sells parts. Do people that own Teslas fix them if they choose to?
People are going to have to re-train if you want to work on an electric vehicle, seriously deadly voltages are not to be messed with, I’m 58 and have re-trained as an electrician in the U.K. and going to specialise in EVSE
embrace the future but but it ain’t a fiddle with it and if you can’t fix it, take it to a mechanic!!!! Cuz you’ll probably be dead
Be safe guys

I want to give a hats off award to the mechanics over the years that have had to dig deep In a car of mine. The ones that said. Raebrek, you know your car is up there in miles for your water pump. Should we replace it because we are in there already and save the labor later on when it fails. Yes, Thank you very much, please do.

It is, and the reservoir us located behind the bumper, totaly unaccessable via any alternet routs. That takes an evil engineer to design.

ouch !!!...my Toyota tacoma (2016)had the pump at the bottom and it was not too bad to get to......but I am not a tall guy and had to use a ladder to get stabilized to get leverage.....I did work up a sweat though.....had to remove it to install the ballast for new lights

my friend just got his BMW iX and you can’t even open the bonnet 🤔
Whenever anyone says bonnet this is what I see:

Tesla Cybertruck $396.00 wiper pump 1662768614188

But I totally accept that many people in other locals see something different.

Funny thing is, what you called a bonnet, I think of as a hood. But really that also has another image.

Q: How many software engineers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. That’s a hardware problem
Yes, but does the light bulb want to change?

It is/was, the challenge was that those beautiful minds placed the reservoir directly behind the front bumper. That diabolical placement ment removing the front bumper and grill on the 16 Malibu which also made it easy to break other things if other routs were attempted during the repair. I looked at this from a different perspective and took it to an independent body shop and he did the job at a 1/4 of any of the previously quoted prices (which come from their big book of How to pay for a guided fishing trip while sticking it to your fellow man service manual). $70.00 out the door; I tipped the gentleman thirty and thanked him.
