I think it bodes well for Tesla and the Cyber Truck that both LG and Panasonic are diving into the 46 wide format. I was a little worried for a while with all the noise about solid state competition and getting passed up by BYD and other suppliers. My new feed is full of these "break throughs" which I am now filing away as mostly FUD designed to make people wait longer to go all EV.

Don't get me wrong, I would love my CT to have 15% more energy density next year or sooner. I wonder if either of these suppliers will produce the higher density cells from the beginning since they are just now completing their lines? Has anyone heard anything along those lines?

This is a perfect example of the Osborne effect. A good way to manage this would be to announce the change after it happens. Like Rivian is doing. Does anybody think that it is possible that these higher density cells might already be getting installed and the CT is software limited for now for the extra capacity? Maybe Elon will announce something along these lines around Robotaxi day as part of a triple shot stock stimulus.

I don't know how much is FUD, but so far the solid state production has either been small or fraudulent, which is frustrating because the frauds undermine very real progress elsewhere.

The 4680 is here, and has a very well trodden development future for cost-cutting.

So far, though, no one but Tesla is making them yet or putting them into production models. Lotsa prototype and validation lines, which is promising.
