If the CT does use this new format what sort of weight savings could be made, I could be wrong but did I hear Elon say a 48v system would only use a 1/4 of the copper of a 12v system, I know wiring looms are heavy beasts so this could be good news that the CT has been put on the diet.
Are there any other advantages of a 48v system apart from weight.
I don’t know about the US but here there could be a copper shortage again as the DIY sheds have gone back to POA on copper wire and tube, I haven’t seen that since the lockdowns.

Weight, mostly, but also, repair: smaller, simpler connectors are easier to replace.

By moving things to a power over ethernet (PoE) style, there's basically just one plug when you swap out a component, instead of a crazy custom wiring harness.

Weight and cost. And weight is cost.
