It's honestly a little hard to believe that $500 would cover everything that needs to be included. That sounds as if they think that they are just installing a charging port. There's a lot more to it.

Especially with A/C units in Florida.
Maybe I forgot to add I build houses, so my electrician will send me a guy on the side who will end up with $100/hr+ cash in his pockets.

And the Gateway requires the power company's approval to 'turn on' before it can activated - don't need that for _just_ the wall connector.

Three guys? For what? This isn't a road crew.
My panel is opposite my meter on the same wall. Mount the gateway, pull the wire, mount the charger, screw down the terminals and you're done. I don't need to pay 2 extra guys to watch.
It's gonna take longer with one guy, and you're going to pay more per hour per guy, and then there's no space for them to train anyone, either.

If it's so easy to do, pull your own wires. That's the time consuming part, anyhow. (And what I do)

No wire needs to be pulled- My panel is in my garage and the meter is directly on the other side of that wall. The Gateway and UWC will mount next to the panel. A second person would be in the way or standing around watching. They can pay to train on their dime, not mine.

You are correct. You are being gouged; your money is being stolen.

It is what it is.

Are you going to have it installed or not?

no.
Anyone that pays more than $75-$100/hr is getting screwed. It takes a drill, a screwdriver and a couple hours. No special training, no special equipment. Any electrician can install it.
STOP paying these ransom prices, people!!!
Eventually Tesla will sell the equipment on the open market and you can hire your own local electrician to install.
