Those people who either personally or by inheritance were given positions of power and wealth they weren’t necessarily the most deserving of at the expense of those who were deprived of said positions despite being the best person for the job.
What you’re trying to do with your question is hide behind the complexity of figuring out that tangled mess which is incredibly difficult.
But just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean it doesn’t have to happen. You can either say fuck it, or spend the time and effort to try make it right.
If you happen to not be one of the people who were wronged, the “fuck it” answer is obviously way more appealing.
you must be talking about our the extremely corrupt people that lord over us mere subject citizens, because my people have been looted and persecuted for generations now. but who are we kidding. they literally got caught red-handed in a world-wide trafficking ring sexually abusing and even eating children so I don't know what else can be done here other than an outright crusade-like war.

but in any case, someone made a simple joke about woke institutions being inscribed into our system of law, and you absolutely flew off the handle as if that dude had desecrated someones gravesite.

sorry, but it's not the sacred cow anymore, and we are done worshiping at the altar of political correctness. it's a disease, and it has to go. full send.

So... I was trying to be funny and failed miserably. My intention wasn't to offend anyone and I apologize that it came off that way. The dei was just meant as incompetent, not as a racial slur. I obviously didn't think it through before posting because it's actually funnier if it's 3 burly figherfighters standing there. Anyway, you're right, I should have thought this through, my bad 🙏.
I was actually more offended by the vitriolic response to your comment than your actual comment. Racism/sexism are terrible things, and I hate to see it continued with policies that mandate considering the sex of a person or their race when hiring or firing. The sex/race of a person has nothing to do with how capable and qualified they are. And no two people are ever exactly equally capable and qualified so putting sex or race into the hiring equation can only allow a more capable person to be discriminated against. You can't atone for past sexism/racism by doing reverse sexism/racism.

I took your comment in the context you met it. But I am a very logical person, not prone to jumping to terrible conclusions using limited data.

That response makes me sad. Your use of the word “they” reveals you as seeing the world as not made up of unique individuals but massive rubrics you can cast as good or evil.
I can only hope your perspective changes over time.
I respect you @REM but you’re buying into an easy way out which doesn’t serve America well.

You are being vague on purpose here. I think you are wanting to cast shame on a certain group of people, but you don't want to name them.

Say it. unfiltered. I want to hear it.

No I’m not. There is more than one group of people who have benefited from discrimination. That’s part of where the complexity comes from.

I haven't read the rest of the comments since this apology post. But I want to say that there is zero reason for you to apologize and no one should make you feel that way. You meant it however you meant it and people can take things however they want. That's what comedy is. Do not cave. I took it exactly as you described.

err…unconventional approach to minorities
Nah, I think you should say the group you have in mind. I want to know who you think the disparaged groups are.

Discrimination isn't complex to me, and that applies whether it's based on race, religion or sex. Discrimination based on irrelevant things shouldn't be tolerated. Full stop. There is no ambiguity. Don't hide behind "complexity" to try to fix past wrongs, it's just perpetuating it.

Outside our rural post office I saw my wife through rear view side mirror chatting with a man pointing our CT. Thinking he wanted to know about my CT which I get a lot so exited to join the conversation. It turns out he was a local fireman (might have been the fire chief as he seemed to speak with authority) He was obliged to tell my wife problems with EVs. He brought up a few things that understandably would be problematic to first responders.
He was polite and not in any way disrespectful or showing hate. Here are things he brought up:
1. No way to open the doors to access people injured or disabled inside. I said yeah I know they are going to change that. "But are they going to retrofit all of them?".
2. I asked if he knew about the fireman's loop. "Yes I do, but how could I get to it if it is under the hood that which I don't have access to."
3. He asked me how so I open the charge port. "I said with my phone". He responded with "Right I can't do that" Then he said he had or there is a special plug that if he were able to plug into the charging port it would disconnect all electricity in the vehicle but that he would have to pry off the cover to gain access. As much as I've paid attention to all things Tesla I did not know about such a plug. I do know about the breakaway cable that Tesla is suing the manufacturer of cause it overheats.
4. Also mentioned that rear passenger emergency manual door opening handle is hidden and one has to open a hidden compartment in the door to gain access.
5. Finally he brought up that he had witnessed three EV fires here which I strongly doubt. Me and one other person here have Teslas and if there had been an EV fire I would have known about it. I really wanted to quote that six ICE vehicle fires to one EV fires, but was not sure of the statistic and if it was normalized to per 1000 vehicles of each type. And most importantly I did not want to get into a pissing contest with quite possibly our fire chief.
I have some opinions about all these points and the "tenor" to which they were made and I'll post later . Some I'll have to look up.
Getting the thread back on track...

Some of these items were a concern for us too. We have a 2024 FS Beast.
We went to the local fire station not long after we took delivery and asked if the firefighters/police wanted to look at the truck for safety reasons. They jumped at the opportunity and we scheduled time at both of the fire stations here for them to look at it.
We had lots of fire fighters, police and paramedics show up, we provided print outs of the emergency responder documentation Tesla published and they were able to ensure the tools they have could break through the laminated glass. We also provided our contact information if they ever wanted to use the truck for training purposes in the future.

I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to your local fire station and doing the same. They don't often get access to the latest vehicles and I bet most first responders have never even touched a Cybertruck.

Exactly. The person that made the comment in question did not bring up race. Again..... Our demand for racism far exceeds supply. Let's kill it for good.
True. DEI hiring practices favor applicants based upon sex, race, religion, sexual "identity", etc. What politicized the conversation was the accusation that anyone with a dim view of DEI hiring policies was racist. If anything, it's the opposite, and taking violent offense to an innocuous comment like that has no place on a friendly forum like this.

I was using a cash machine across the ally from a local fire station. Their second story window looks down on it. Two of the fireman said they saw my Cybertruck and had to rush down to check it out in person. They were super positive and enthusiastic and wanted to familiarize themselves with it and any differences from other more typical vehicles. I showed them the fireman's cable, we discussed the hard frickin' steel, the tougher glass, etc.

They didn't show any hint of bias or hate, they were only interested in how they could be most effective at their jobs.

Fair. I will politely take my leave then. I’d encourage everyone to just keep an open mind and remember that the stereotypes against us Cybertruck drivers are grounded in something. I’m glad there is a community of mostly like-minded people for us to be able have some sort of discourse that’s impersonal.

yes, agreed.

I think my biggest issue in my locale is that people are so allergic to anything new that they openly revolt against the idea of learning how it works. Most people are in utter blissful denial that EVs are going to rugpull ICE vehicles in such a paradigm shift that they can't begin to comprehend the scale of things that will change.

Look at some of the major metro cities in China that have outright banned ICE engines as commuter vehicles, many of which have also banned excessive honking.

Anyone from America visiting those cities say the same things: It's utterly bizarre to see so much traffic and hear so little noise from it. Truly astonishing, in fact.

100%, I agree.

We were in Copenhagen 2 weeks ago. Everything is electric and charging stations are everywhere.
There’s a level of willful ignorance required to think ICE cars are going to be the majority here much longer.
