Any 500mi range updates?

55 is normal freeway speed along the west coast and most secondary highways.

It's not our fault you accept higher road deaths on your long-haul links (which are a minority of truck miles).

Hmmm awkward... you found MY private charger at my Rental...level 2. Which is why I offer I to people because there are no options for folks staying in the area.

My point is, rural areas like these probably won't get superchargers ( hopefully Chester someday), and level 2 chargers don't make sense. Regardless, charging at level 2 speeds makes zero sense while charging.. a whopping 8-10 miles of towing range an hour..
I'm lucky enough to arrive at my house at 5-10% and be able to charge. Most folks don't have that options

BTW - EPA range is not what I am referring to. I am referring to highway range at the speed I drive, which is around 80 mph. I am sure "up to" 500 mile estimate is not highway range, but EPA range. Big difference.

This is what I was aiming for right here.

People seem to think Tesla is going to publish some range number other than the EPA range. “While Towing” or “While going 80 MPH” and that’s not going to happen. When you see ICE trucks advertised with milage estimates, those mileage estimates are based on EPA estimates, not with trailers or going 80 MPH, etc…


If a Cybertruck gets 500 miles range in the wild, you can bet it’ll be going 60MPH or less, it’ll have the vault cover closed. No extra racks, no trailers, etc. That’s how the industry works. Most people are going to get about 80% of that number.

Cybertruck probably won’t be more efficient than your Mach E, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was close. The Mach E is Ford’s freshman effort, the Cybertruck is 3rd generation. When Ford gets onto their 2nd and 3rd generations, they will get more efficient.

If you live rural and have an EV, having a home charger is essential.

My parents tow a 32 ft trailer. If they are going EV they need to be able to comfortably bridge a 200 mile supercharger gap while towing that sucker. That means an EPA range of at least 500 miles.

I've been wanting to take a Tesla (or any EV) up Mauna Kea to see how much regen I'd get coming back down. My wife and I drove up in a rented Ford Focus (don't tell Avis ?). I reset the trip computer at the top, just intending to check the mileage back to the beach. The computer told me at the bottom that I had averaged 999 mpg during the descent! ? I'll bet it was actually greater but the readout only had three digits.

I wouldn't take my personal Model 3 up that road (teeth chatteringly rough) but I would do it in a CyberTruck

Me. Whole reason I reserved the Cybertruck. Technically the CT isn't necessary for me, but my MDX can sure as hell push a range of 640 miles at max. So why settle for less range when gasoline can push more range out of a single fill up. Hope you get the point.

Sir, that is a very incorrect statement. While it's true that fully blown ICE vehicles (proper vehicles for us car enthusiasts) won't be on sale by 2035 (thanks to a particular group of inconsiderate jerks), however, gas stations will exist still. Porsche is working on eFuel at the moment, which will allow your gas-powered vehicle to run even longer. Please remember, not everyone can afford an EV, even with the tax credits (cuz tax credits don't lower the MSRP of the vehicle at all, rather it lowers the amount of money you owed to the IRS; another topic I'll keep away from).

If anything, I'll see the CT and MY not being in the fleet longer than 10 years, but I'll bring my MDX to my grave with me.

Level 2 from a 50a RV outlet can be 11kW so if you're using a kilowatt per mile you're really chugging. Still, that's eight more miles when you eat a sandwich and that's better than nothing. Especially going back down hill!

With CCS compatibility coming, putting in small stations at the bottoms of these rural, remote grades will make sense. And it would let tourists take the back way into the parks, for instance...

I can't wait to get my truck, I haven't explored much up there aside from the Feather River ^-^ It's what inspired my spouse to buy a house!

One quibble I have is that the Mach-E is Ford's like, fourth or fifth attempt at an EV platform, depending on how you count the 90s.
