why do you say that? Cold weather has little impact on highway range for ICE vehicles, plus gas stations are everywhere.
Why do you say that? There aren't gas stations everywhere in the north. They're rarer than outlets.

And if you think ICE highway range doesn't go down in the winter, you're suspiciously not watching your mileage.

Is it a sign they have not yet reached their predicted density and have now changed from '500+' to 'up to 500'.?

At reveal, they were clearly confident enough to advertise as 500+, so something has changed.

If so, I don't think this 4680 setback is major, but clearly impactful enough to warrant a tweak to the advertised range.

Who knows ? Perhaps by the time they go into production, it will all be tied up, and back to the 500+.

Tesla will get “Up To 500 Miles” the same way the iPhone gets “Up to 16 hours video playback”.

Under the right conditions and with the right trim you get it. If you max out brightness or are running an inefficient codec, have a poor network connection, or get a lot of text messages while you are streaming video you won’t get 16 hours of playback.

It’s super common in the industry to use this phrase. I really have no idea why people latched onto it is if it means they are getting significantly less than 500 miles range. There is literally zero difference between saying 500+ miles range and “Up to 500 miles range”. Under neither circumstance are you going to consistently get 500 miles of driving out of the truck.

I don't think they meant to be flippant with their range description. No, something is amiss, the change is clinical.

They are describing 2 or more trims.

They can talk about range in a few different ways:
  • Between 250 - 500 miles range.
  • 250, 300, or 500 miles range depending on trim.
  • up to 500 miles range.
All of these can describe the same exact lineup. Saying “500+ miles range” does not describe that lineup because some of the models will without a doubt have less than 500 miles range.

This is not a new argument. I remember what seems like a year ago having this same conversation. The 500+ was removed from the website a long time ago. I did not like it then, and I still don't like it.

I cannot be convinced that a stated range of "500+ is the same thing as a stated range of "up to 500 miles". These are not the same thing.

The only range number I care to discuss further is when they release the final specs and we see what the EPA stated range is determined to be.

People who have real winters... Here in the frozen wasteland of the north, where distances are vast, charging infrastructure is limited, and soul-crushing winters kill range. By my calculations, a 500 mile battery is the starting point for "useful" work.
?Drive 500 miles in Hawaii and you will fall into the ocean.

I don’t think there is anywhere in Hawaii where you would need a truck with 500 miles range. Dog or not.
?Just how much KWs does the air conditioner use per hour in dog mode?

This guy left it with his dog in the hot sun and he says 1.2 kWh/ hour. So maybe 2 full days on the 500 mile truck? Certainly too long to leave you dog in the vehicle without some source of food & water and a place to :poop:

My guess is if theyre indeed building quad motor cybertruck first...then that means they will be building out the larger 500 mile packs first too. Meaning the next in line would be tri-motor or dual motor with the 500 mile pack. They must build enough 500 miles packs to satisfy the demand initially for the most expensive builds...once that dwindles they would naturally need to make use of the 500 mile packs which would be the next level down which is prob dual motor with max pack. To make sense that max pack(500 miles) would be a double stack and a 300 miles would be single stack?

Here's a screen shot I saved along the way that was posted on-line (since I didn't do it when ordering), showing 500+ miles of EPA-rated range for the Tri-Motor AWD model of Cybertruck...
