Has anyone got PowerShare working and wired up in Canada? Looking to get idea of the process and cost here - especially Ontario?

I upgraded my cottage panel last year to 200 amp. I discussed PS install with my electrician and he didn’t know anything about PS and asked me if it was CSA approved. I couldn’t find that out so I opted for a generator switch at the meter. That has worked well for us as where we are at power can be out for a week. CT would not last that long. I declined my power share at home in Ohio because install was too high ($5800) when you can get a gas fired generator for $9000. I used the voucher for a spare tire and other items. So for me power share wasn’t a benefit.

ok thanks for sharing your experience. I was quoted over 15k for a whole house natural gas generac generator. I'd rather get the powershare working if it were under 10k as the Generac's are super loud.

I declined the generac because in the last 35 years we have only had one outage and that was for hurricane Sandy. Our son and daughter in law were living with us. We have gas and electric cooking. City water and fireplace for heat. So really we got by just fine. But ….after two days We left them in charge. Power was out for 6 days. We went to the cottage for a three week duck and deer hunt. Power Share sounds nice but what if the Ontario Hydro is out for 8-10. You won’t have enough juice in the CT to last that long. What if you are at a cottage and need to get home and can’t charge after using power share? I always keep my CT plugged in if adverse weather is expected. Good luck. Our place is near Barry’s Bay. Stay safe

I wasn't aware it's available in Canada yet - we're about to get the universal charger installed in the garage in anticipation of it (the universal charger is required - it won't work with the normal Tesla wall charger, apparently). Both Tesla and our electrician advised it's not available. I'm in Edmonton.

I installed the Tesla wall charger for my CT in the garage. I use the long cord to run it out to the CT. Even though the chargers are build to withstand weather. I would not order the universal charger if it is just for you CT.

The universal charger is required if you want to install PowerShare, as I understand it (confirmed by Tesla and by my electrician), which we probably plan to do.

From the Tesla site (https://www.tesla.com/en_CA/support/powershare):
"For homes not equipped with Powerwall, a Universal Wall Connector and Powershare Gateway will be required to use Powershare Home Backup"

I went through the qmerit.ca process yesterday and the automated quote was about $1600 for the install. So that plus the $3500 for the gateway and universal charger comes to somewhere about $5000 plus the tax.

For now I used the credit for the winter tire package.

My lowest quote for installation was $5800USD. With the $2500 for power share equip I opted out of it entirely. That is a very good price for installation.

Hey NR, Our place is 50 miles (85 clicks) NE of Bancroft. I was going to go with power share but my electrician offered me an adapter at the electric meter installed for like $875. I couldn't pass it up and I used the voucher for supercharging. Back home in Cleveland ohio the lowest quote I got for installation of the $5800 as listed above. I am not convinced it is the best way to go. If you are in an area of unreliable electric service you can apply to HydroOne to have Tesla power wall installed for free. Ya they have a program for that. I just found out about it and am going to apply for it this week. Use your voucher in the Tesla Store.
