Thanks! I guess maybe the service center resolution was correct - fix the owners manual. Odd thing is, the technician showed me the USB module they replaced. It has two connectors - both with over 20 conductors. Seems like a lot just for PD... The only visible feature was the USBC port but probably has some wireless functions.
In the USB setup document it says:
"Once formatted, insert the USB drive into the glovebox USB port (if equipped), otherwise use a front USB port in the center console."
So maybe a build configuration option? Seems unlikely though since that would require a longer actual USB link to the MCU.

The console controller module runs the air vents in the rear along with the two rear USB-C which have 6 lines each for charge support.

You need folders named that, the partition names themselves don't matter.
Sure, but making them obvious makes life easier when one pulls it, hooks it to one's laptop/desktop, and copies to or from it.

AFAIK, still need a separate partition for everything other than TeslaCam.

I suppose depending how the OS presents them. Either way, you need the correctly named folder in the root and that also tells you which you are looking at.

My MS 2017 at one time was able to play music from thumb drive and then it went away. Only way now is to use the Bluetooth connection to play music.

Does sentry work and do you have a dual partition thumb drive?

This has been a big pain for me. The manual says one thing but the service center says another. You can't have a lightshow and dashcam at the same time. Do they really expect us to plug and unplug just to do lightshows? Makes no sense to me. Also, the lightshow on USB doesn't allows work right. I have some more testing to do but I wish it worked better.

You can do both at the same time. Read above to reference threads on partitioning your drive in the glove box.

I wrote instructions on how to do this, as well:

I got this SSD to run from the glovebox which looks like oversized USB thumbdrive :

I removed the metal covers to make it a bit lighter. Has been working well for a few months I've had it.
I had a similar thumb drive that got VERY hot when in use, like painful-to-the-touch hot. It didn't last long, and I went back to the Tesla-supplied thumb drive.

Glad yours is working for you.
