Can't wait for the lack of open standards with this concept where every car has self driving yet each manufacturer refuses to communicate with every other manufacturer, insisting their proprietary version is best, and holding the world back from an efficient and simple routing of traffic. Traffic jams of the future.. manufacturer induced instead of idiot induced!
Oh I bet they will all communicate and reroute you, BUT for some kind of a crazy subscription fee.

a

Convoy + slipstream rotation = I need to find cohorts with the same commute as mine
That would be pretty cool. Set it and forget it and relax. Get to work stress free cuz your not thinking of the close calls you had with those idiot reckless drivers who have to be 2 cars ahead of you. Seriously, sometimes getting ready to work it’s like preparing for a race.

lights are on cars to tell you when they are backing up, lights are on cars to turn on when your parked that most people never use parking lights why not a blue logo light to alert others that your letting the car drive itself? Also if a driver while under autopilot does have the car go off course and the driver says it reacted on its own. A possible outside witness can testify they did or did not see the light on to help validate the drivers claim.
Do you think that I am fore or against the blue light? I am fore it.

So make it green, purple, pink just let people know they are within close proximity of a 5000lb vehicle driving itself.

Announcing "I'm On Autopilot!" is a great way to encourage idiots to try and cause an accident so they can sue Tesla.
I believe another vehicle or pedestrian should have a right to know 5000 lbs of a vehicle is being driven by a computer when in close proximity to there person or family traveling close by. I think self driving will in fact be safer in the long run.

If it's in front of you then fore. Behind, it's aft.

What would you do differently if you knew the truck was controlled by an EV? Worry a little less about road rage?

I was trained to drive defensively; basically assuming all other drivers are idiots trying to kill me.

I don’t need a blue, yellow, purple or whatever light to announce there may be a computer driving. I will assume every vehicle is potentially a vehicular assassin.

Some people just look for things to worry about. Like Cybergus said, that is #397 on my list of concerns when in the car. Now if your light scheme should keep deer and other creatures from darting in my way, THAT I would wholeheartedly support. Otherwise ?

This is a driver's default especially if they also ride motorcycles. I drive both, and naturally drive in anticipation and preparation for the worst from everyone around me. Generally people suck at driving. Hopefully their fsd reliance makes the roads safer from their ineptitude.

Personally, i prefer to drive when i am driving because that is the enjoyment of the action. I'll be holding off on fsd purchase for years until it's nearly perfect and my active driving starts to interfere with the automated driving patterns of the traffic mesh network. Then I'll upgrade! ;)

I've even 100% rejected cruise control for decades, until the past few months where I've decided to use it on long drives to keep speed more accurately constant in order to maximize fuel economy in a crappy low economy truck beyond what is physically possible. I'm not convinced it helps much beyond my preference for setting it just barely above the speed limit, which saves gas as it prevents me from driving faster.

The NHTSA has only confirmed autopilot was involved in 3 fatalities since 2016. I think all of those people were inside the vehicle, not in other cars. There are about 25 additional cases which the NHTSA is still investigating but they've eliminated autopilot as the cause in some cases too.

The media assumes a Tesla is on autopilot long before the details come out. (And often long after it's been demonstrated autopilot wasn't involved)

The big unanswerable question is... how many fatalities were avoided because the car was on autopilot?

How about a logo that changes colors based on how aggressive the driver is. It turns a little more red each time a driver makes a quick lane change, accelerates quickly, or exceeds the speed limit by more than 15 MPH. Tailgating or cutting a car off, it turns bright red and flashes.

Drivers who chill at 5-10 MPH over the speed limit and use the passing lane correctly get blue. Drivers who have averages the speed limit or lower get green. If they camp the passing lane, it flashes yellow and orange.

Then it would make sense for drivers who use autopilot to have a glowing blue light... except for the passing lane campers.
