Unfortunately no sentry footage as I had it off. Incredibly windy today and I’m guessing a car door flung open and tore my wrap.

Will be getting it replaced but look at this damage. Must have been an incredible door hit. I’d love to see the other vehicle's door ?

That looks superficial to me, as if it is stuck on.

Sad to see we have so many dirtbags walking this earth. Whoever did that knew for an absolute fact that they damaged someone else's property, and they just happily got in their car and putted away.

ugh.

100% it’s not a little door ding. It must have been a ton of force to create that type of damage.

This is where my normal smug comment of, “might as well paint it” falls apart. It’s true that you’re covering your durable surface with something much weaker. Although replacing a wrap on a door is so much simpler and will likely perfectly match the color of the old wrap. Way better than paint.

I suspect PPF production lots vary very slightly in color just as paint lots do. If so, it may be more difficult to match the panel with new film than it is with paint because there is no way to blend film with the method a skilled painter uses to blend paint during application.

That said, I hope the owner finds that I’m wrong and the replacement film matches perfectly.

Looks like they banged it hard on purpose.

My PPF supplier retains the excess wrap for a few years, for just this scenario- to pull from the same lot/ roll for small repairs.
I've never had a car with PPF nor do I know someone else with it, so I'm very unfamiliar with how it might be repaired.

Could a small area of damage such as the one in this thread be repaired with a similar size piece of retained original material? Or, would the repair require enough retained material to re-wrap the entire panel containing the damage?

The panel. But my wrap shop kept the balance of whole roll for me. Enough to do a replacement panel or two

Are you saying that won't "self heal"?

It seems it would make more sense to just peel all the plastic off. That way this won't keep happening.

How much would a shop charge to just remove all the wrap?

How high from the ground was that spot? I was trying to figure out what would have hit the door that high.

I was thinking of flat | satin | matt black. For minor dings, I was wondering if a black Sharpie would work for a temp solution or if it would minor longer. That stainless steel color stands out for sure. I like the hardness of it but it seems quite viscerally "disliked".

eg. F-117 Stealth Fighter look
The stainless-steel clad truck is all angles, in part because a traditional press can’t bend the steel into curves. The Lamborghini Countach, also an aggressively angular car, had also inspired the design, as had Lockheed’s F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, von Holzhausen said.

A temp fix would be to touch up the exposed area with matte black plastidip. Till you are ready to replace the film.
