There is a ski resort in Canada that says all vehicles including 4x4s need snow chains as it is on a logging road.
Do you think I should get them for my foundation CT? If so, how many and where from? My wife found some but they're $600!

Tesla says in the ad for them that other chains have been shown to damage ct suspension and vehicle damage… likely wouldnt be covered by warranty, so be careful

Depending on where you're going, some chain controls will allow 4x4 vehicles with "snow" tires to proceed without chains. Here in Tahoe they will close the roads before requiring 4x4 vehicles with snow tires to chain up. While the stock AT tires are decent, they are far from dedicated winter tires. Typically only tires with the "three mountain peak" symbol will pass as true snow tires.

Regardless, even if they were to let you through, you are expected (required) to have chains with you as well. Yes, they're expensive as hell, but cheaper than the ticket/tow you might otherwise receive.

Also a good idea to practice putting them on so you're not stuck trying to figure it out on the side of the road in a snow storm.

If you look at a front tire you'll see the spindle comes out over the top of the tire. You need to be sure the chains won't ballon up and contact it. Seems kind of risky regardless of the manufacturer. If it were me, I'd only use the Tesla ones. At least they might help you out in case of damage.

I got a set from Tesla ‘just in case’. I think they were $300.

Haven't used my Tesla chains yet, but I did a test fit on a spare - much easier than rolling in the dirt when trying them on for the first time. Those chains are a bit more aggressive than necessary (I'd rather run SCC cables) for icy conditions, but they will do the job for sure.

Tesla says to only use chains on the rear tires.
