I have my CT for 7 months with 6K miles on it and I started to notice hairline cracks in my screen. I don't know how long they have been there as you really have to look for it. the first set I found was in the lower corner, but than I noticed a crack in the middle of the screen as well, not connected to the first one. Bringing it in the service center next week - but I'm wondering if others have experienced the same?

Can you be more specific? Do you mean the LCD control screen or the windshield glass (we don’t generally say “windscreen” in the USA and I’m not sure if you are from the Great White North where the English is closer to UK English than here in your Southern neighbor if so)?

Bottom line: I have no idea to what you are referring.

Cheers

PS—Either way, photos would most likely help others a lot.

My computer screen has a screensaver hopefully that prevents that. I haven’t heard any issues myself beside windshield damages

Do you have a screen protector on it? Tesla stated that warranty for the screen is void and you may damage the screen if you put a protector over it. I believe its due to the thermal loads, as it runs very hot.

Looks like a stress crack.

This is a picture of one of the cracks (in the touchscreen panel) - there is a longer crack in the middle but really hard to get a picture of it

Wow, that's nuts. never heard of nor have I seen that on any Tesla before.

I wonder what the deal is. Since the control touchscreen is basically a big tablet, and kids run around dropping tablets all day without too many cracked screens, you would think the touchscreen would be more robust.

Bizarre.

How would Tesla ever know? If you get a crack you could just peel the protector off. seems like a bogus "gotcha" warranty trick anyway. Everyone puts protectors on every phone and tablet screen in order to protect them (duh!). If your tablet overheats and cracks when you put screen protectors on it then you need to redesign your screen. Period. Tesla--Take note. Seriously.

Cheers

No i don't have a screen protector - seems silly in a car imho. The car was sitting in the sun during the summer - but this is in California - and temperatures are not close even to what states like Arizona are getting.. Also I don't know for how long these cracks have been there - it's really hard to see (but now I know they are there - it's really bugging me).

So I have scheduled a service appointment and I assume this will be taken care off by warranty (although the app shows an estimate of $2,172.65 for this)

Yes. For them to deny a warranty repair they need to prove the damage came from the modification.

More importantly, borosilicate glass has the least amount of heat expansion of any type of glass, which means it rarely suffers heat shock.

Nope. Tech is not designed for aftermarket parts. They design it with the thermal behavior of the devices as there are built, like Rick said. The thermal considerations for electronics is important.
Outside of all that it is wild the screen cracked. Hope they fix it with warranty.

I’ve never had a screen protector on anything. Modern phone and tablet glass is quite amazing.

There’s no need for a screen protector on a Tesla display.

I use the matte screen protector from Abstract Ocean for the improved visibility in bright light.

For me, it makes the screen much easier to see in all lighting conditions.

The dramatic reduction in fingerprints is a nice bonus as well.

Not worried about damage in the CT (though I did manage to ram a 2x4 into my MYLR screen when loading from the rear. The matte protector was undamaged, I assume the OEM screen would've been ok, but I was glad the protector was there just the same, haha!!).
