Darin I love your design. Here is a similar one I drew last year using a Colorado Camper van top. I own one on my van. I know the owner of CCV and I think he is game to try something like this. One button. Pro built. Simpler deployment mechanism. Also has stand up height full length plus 3' over the cab. Electric lifting arms at each end. With 110 AC available for the lifter motors the top could deploy/stow in 15 seconds.

what is the length the camper there.

so the vault is 6.5’ with the tailgate up and with it down an 8’x4’ sheet can fit.

with the telescopic ramp out maybe a camper could be around 12’ long?

I wonder about a removable solid box on small wheels that could be pushed on and off

Even the ice plant burns when it's 100F.
Yeah, the heat has been a huge problem with a lot of these fires. When it gets 10-15 degrees over normal this time of year, suddenly everything lights up much quicker. Southern Oregon is also sharing in California’s drought so a lot of standing dead trees and brush that’s bone dry.

Pop Tops are so popular now (Winnebago Solis, Thor Tellaro, etc.) and in fact if someone doesn't come up with a decent camper for the CT, I'll have to get a low roof Transit panel van, add a Sportsmobile Poptop and do the interior conversion myself.
OP while you are at it, have a version with the tailgate open to level with ground, then add railings on the sides and end to make turn the gate into a patio deck like many Toy Haulers have.

Never fails to amaze me, a high percentage of truck owners WANT to sleep in their trucks.
This is my type of camping.

Two ideas I’d like to see illustrated are an inflatable bed top tent, and a fold out tent where the tent floor (vault top) swings out replacing the tail gate.

That happened the last time we went camping in the Sierras. All the camps were still snowed in, so we pushed on to Tahoe, and snagged a great deal on a lakefront room.

Slept like a log listening to the water lapping on the dock.

More my speed.

Fold down the tailgate and put a zipper door in the back for a proper exit. If there is a midgate it would be a pretty large tent. You could have the pooper in the under vault storage.
Or maybe Elon and his team can figure out how to use the Black Water for some sort of "Back to the Future" power source.

The sloped style is like a VW Westphalia. The level top is Colorado Camper van. Some top shells are as thin as 5"

The 1st/2nd one is what I would want. I love that it keeps the aerodynamics and weight should be minimal. I would like to see a floating. floor that settles in at level. I would also like to see a zip-in rear room that can be added, both an all screen and a zip over solid - perfect. peace

To make that pop up you need precise dimensions.

this is a badass pic

i too am a fan of the aliner style hard sides. I'll give another plug to hiatus campers. they are the only hardsided popup campers I've seen yet. look like a creative, hardworking young couple living the dream.
I'll probably go to them for my needs as they seem reasonably priced, kept simple, and configurable. Looking forward to what they come up with :)

I too can DIY with rigid walls and the ability to slide out of the bed. I will share a design after receiving the truck. It will be a while. I am playing with the idea as a mobile office but can be configured for camping.
ya , rigid is much better, i remember there is a rigid pop up manufacturer that you can do similar and be a supplier for all future CT owners that wants a camping unit
