So, for someone who is an absolute ignoramus about all things alignment, what makes the Cybertruck more difficult/complicated and why do people seem adamant about taking it to Tesla as opposed to the many reputable alignment shops out there?

1st, the machine should be set up to display in degrees and minutes (60 min = 1 degree)
Why?
0.01 degree is < 1 minute (100 divisions vs 60). The system would need to display decimal minutes or seconds to be higher precision.
At least in the case of Tesla, all targets can be expressed exactly in either set of units.

It is displayed in degrees and minutes, most high end vehicle manufacturers require this. It allows for more precision and an overall better alignment outcome.

Some may not care or state that it doesn’t matter. I do care and prefer to do it right.

How are minutes (1/60 of a degree) higher precision than using two decimal places (1/100 of a degree)?

Some will say, close enough but if the machine can be calibrated and used to deliver higher precision then I will use it.

0.01 deg = 0.6 min
0.004 deg = 0.24 min

The thrust line went out at 0.02 degrees (1.2 minutes), if the technician saw that and cared, perhaps they would have shot for a better number. If the front was displayed in deg/min, the tech might have paid more attention to the big number rather than just squeezing it into the “green”

Yeah, I'm not saying the alignment couldn't have been dialed in better, I'm saying decimal degrees is higher resolution than decimal:seconds. Or is it the case than only toe displays with two digits whereas camber and caster are one decimal place and thus offer less precision than seconds would?

Depending on rounding:
1 minute could be 0.5 to 1.5 which would be 0.01 (0.0083) to 0.03 (0.025) degrees.

Yes exactly--AFAIK the hunter system gives you two decimal places for toe, which is great, but only one decimal place for camber and caster, which is why torqmonstr prefers degrees and minutes for everything
