First Cybertruck crash accident -- head on collision w/ Toyota Corolla

Found this on Reddit a few minutes ago, looks like a head on with a smaller car. No photos of the damage on the Cybertruck, but the car looks worse for wear.

The CHP summary of the accident: "On December 28, 2023 at approximately 2:05 pm, CHP Redwood City units were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on SR-35 (Skyline Boulevard), south of Page Mill Road. Our preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on SR-35 southbound, south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed, when the driver, for unknown reasons, turned to the right and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, and crashed into a Tesla Cybertruck traveling north on SR-35 northbound. The Tesla driver sustained a suspected minor injury and declined medical transportation. No other injuries were reported. It does not appear that the Tesla Cybertruck was being operated in autonomous mode. The investigation into this incident is ongoing."

Looks like a significant impact.
CT looks good BUT the damage would have happened on the drivers side based on the damage of the sedan.

Hope everyone is physically ok.

But the owner of the CT now has to make a reservation and go to the back of the line assuming it was not a Tesla employee. Could not imagine starting that 4 year wait all over.

I hope seeing the CT isn't too distracting. It's common for people to unintentionally, and unconsciously steer towards things they are focusing on.

Left hand Head airbags went off on Cybertruck. Meaning most likely a side hit in the opposing side, or the yaw sensor was triggered. There is substantial damage to the CT as usually these srs systems are deployed in only life saving events, and the sensors are mounted in structural areas of the vehicle. Take note, look at the rear suspension of that CT… the hit was in the left front. Something is not right.

Given where the Cybertruck is, the skid marks, the damage to the opposing vehicle, probably a driver side overlap of 20-25% collision. One of the more deadly accidents. But there’s a chance the CT was struck in the left rear door / left bedside with a glancing blow given the odd rear suspension height, seemingly no distortion to the CT’s hood from the angle we see, and it’s resting spot on the road vs the other vehicle which was slung into the ditch.

The opposing car is absolutely annihilated… I’m guessing here, and assuming these pictures were both taken from the same vehicle, it looks like after the collision the centrifugal force spun them both away, the other car has damage extending into the A pillar, meaning the collision plowed through the entire front suspension (arguably one of the stoutest parts of the vehicle) and with enough force on what looks like slightly damp roads to throw it’s rear end into the embankment / tree on the other side of the road. The entire engine is visibly crooked, and the radiator support assembly has been shifted laterally meaning the driver side lower frame rail (engine mounting spot) is completely compromised.

This is real world example of one of the most destructive NHTSA crash tests. Tesla will 100% be taking note of the damages in this collision.

Car taking a turn too fast maybe, got into ct's lane. CT swerves right, car hits side of ct. Makes more sense than a head on.

The most common head on is where one or both vehicles cross the center line a little so that the left front of one vehicle impacts the left front of the other oncoming vehicle. Based on what little can be seen in the photos, that certainly looks like one possibility here.

I hope the occupants can thank the new construction techniques and airbags for another save.
