I just find it a bit odd that they would be having a press event with it in June in Italy when that is around the time when it should be arriving in Texas or at least en-route.
They have talked about stamping an entire car frame in one piece Intuitively this would make something larger than a CT rear casting, but maybe not much larger, unless it was somehow simpler. Maybe this is it? I would love a freeway safe 4 seater EV. Besides Polestar and Volvo who else has talked about adopting megacasting?

The first patent Tesla showed was making an entire unibody with a single machine.

That's the theory. It might be, as someone said, just a natural inflection point of how IDRA is making their machines, and 6, 9, 12 are the sizes they came up with while 8 is the target required for the Cybertruck.

This is all speculation after 'we need an 8k machine for the truck' and 'we got an order for an 8k machine' and 'here we made a 9k machine'. The details are so limited!

IDRA's looking like the waiter bringing the wrong plate to our table.

Aaand ...who had the 9kT Gigapress special?

***CTOwnersClub starts looking around the table confused and mumbling "I don't think--wuh?...we need 8kT, right?..." ***

Yea, that’s what’s so frustrating. All we can do is speculate with good facts we already have.

BTW: Crissa….I spoke to someone at Tesla yesterday about a software issue and then asked him if he could see my CT reservation. He pulled it up and verified that I had indeed opted for FSD for the $7,000 pricing. He had everything there and I got the Tri-motor. I am a happy camper. He did emphasize that pricing on truck has not been determined yet but FSD is locked at 7 k for me

That's actually really good news!

It means the back end is being built out. They couldn't see our reservations' details a year ago. And a year before that, they couldn't see our reservations at all.

that's awesome as I'm the Trimotor also... glad to hear it still seems to be on the table ! that begs the question - what's the Quad upgrade?

Wiki - Gigapress

Wow - the giga press is way different than I imagined. I thought it actually pressed a near molten ingot into the mold. Turns out the press is mostly a clamp and the guts are much more complicated and potentially finicky. Liquid metal running through pipes is never really easy to do. You definitely wouldn't want to shut that bad boy down very often.

I will further demonstrate my ignorance now by assuming the clamping force is a function of surface area of the part required to resist the pressure of the injected metal. Using imperial units which I hate, but can't seam to get away from. The pressure would be about 10 PSI. Hopefully I am within an order of magnitude. Apparently there is a vacuum in the mold to keep air bubbles out.

Crazy to think about how this process has evolved
