The chances are greater than 0 that its capped at 1,000 units.

The chances are greater than 0 also of your absolute statement being correct, but the fact is no one but a small group of people at Tesla really knows and we are all speculating.

again, the real point here is this:

even if 1,000 is the plan today, it could change on Monday

that Tesla wants to retain that flexibility is I think proved by the FS orders etc not explicitly calling out the 1,000 number (oany other number).

you don’t just forget to not name the max number in a limited series

that said, we know that at present the official number internally of FS is 1,000 - subject to change.

and I don’t think it’s changed yet, which would suggest that however many people have received invites and ordered, it’s not yet more than 1,000

I haven't read any of the series but I was asking Bard about them since you sparked the topic.

1200 was Seldon's Trial. This seems like it relates directly with the showroom units put out right before delivery event. Maybe you can shed some more insight if there is a relation.

From Bard:

Hari Seldon's trial in 1200 AD (Galactic Era 12,067) serves as a pivotal moment in the Foundation series, catapulting his controversial plan into the public eye and setting the stage for the Foundation's establishment. Here's a deeper dive into the event:

The Charges:
  • Treason: Accused of undermining the authority of the Galactic Emperor by predicting the Empire's imminent collapse and proposing the establishment of independent entities as alternatives.
  • Heresy: His use of psychohistory, a science deemed heretical by some, further fueled accusations of defying established authority and potentially tampering with fate.
  • Disturbing the Peace: Publicly announcing the Empire's demise and sparking widespread fear and uncertainty were seen as destabilizing acts detrimental to public order.
Seldon's Defense:
  • Scientific Basis: He presented extensive data and calculations backed by psychohistory, emphasizing the predictive power of the science and the inevitability of the Empire's fall.
  • Alternative Solution: Seldon argued that the Foundation offered a path to minimize the interregnum of chaos and accelerate the rise of a new, stable civilization.
  • Moral Imperative: He emphasized the responsibility to future generations, calling for proactive measures to protect humanity from the impending dark ages.
Reactions and Outcome:
  • Public Controversy: The trial sparked wide-ranging debates and divided public opinion. While some believed Seldon's warnings and supported his plan, others branded him a traitor and heretic.
  • Emperor's Intervention: To maintain control and avoid open rebellion, the Emperor ultimately exiled Seldon and his followers to Terminus, allowing the Foundation to be established but under close Imperial watch.
  • Legacy: The trial established Seldon as a controversial figure but also brought his plan to the forefront of public discourse. It marked the official start of the Foundation's journey and set the stage for the long-term struggle against the Empire's decline.
Additional Points of Interest:
  • The trial brought several influential characters to the forefront, including Gaal Dorius, Seldon's partner, whose testimony supported his case.
  • The trial highlights the tension between scientific progress and established power structures, showcasing the potential threat scientific advancements can pose to existing regimes.
  • The event serves as a turning point in the narrative, propelling the Foundation into existence and forcing them to navigate the delicate political landscape of a crumbling Empire.

Generative AI is amazing. This is more verbose than I could of added for this point in the story.

If I just simply add some perspective too it: This might be the apex of the turn Elon feels he is at right now with the "established power" and his own vision of the future. There could be a real debate on if 1200 is representing this perspective.

Side note: The entire conversation of the book series and patterns could simply be an example of Apophenia.

Like I said earlier, I got a late start today so that's why we got 13 on my first scan (~8:25 am central).

Foundation (the Sci-Fi masterpiece) always seemed to be sorta about the math, Ai, and well, all civilization across the universe. But it was a long time ago that I actually read the book.

Hmm, anyway 1000 as a basic number hasn't really been disproven yet, so I'm also in the unsure camp as to how many Cybertrucks will be in the founding group. Could be 1-2000 I suppose, but 20,000? No I don't think so.

Seems like they are not sending out more big group invites, but that could change tomorrow...

or, ultimately, be different for AWD then Beasts

this few Beasts being made, you could decide to stick with eg 500 Beasts simply because that’s as many or more than you can build on any acceptable “limited edition” timeline.

while the AWD, if you decide to ignore an eg 500 limit, you could just say “ however many we build before Q2” and see where it takes you.
