All headlights are behind glass or plastic. They did this so they could sale it as an option and not bloat the MSRP.
oh, what I meant was glare behind the windshield, the same glass you're looking through. Light behind glass isn't an issue unless you're trying to look through the same glass.

Oh, I assume they would build.it so the glass in the windshield is the housing for the lights. They would push the lights up against the glass and angle it. It wouldn't be the same as someone holding a flashlight/spotlight shining out from inside.

This is what they do for the front facing cameras. It is even heated in that pocket.

Also, the light bars were built in for the prototype and they used it fine at night before. I think it's either to save cost or federal/state laws. It's not road legal so probably can't be built into a road going car.

if it could have been incorporated inside of the windshield i might have opted in
Same, don't have a pressing need for one but would have optioned it had that been the case.

I don't think that's the issue, arguably easier to have it on the interior as an option rather than the exterior.

there are a lot more practical issues with building it in behind the glass

any LED light bar throwing lumens worth having puts out an incredible amount of heat

in fact, some are built to throttle the lumens depending on ambient temps. Driving at some speed in 40° weather, they produce max light. Sitting still in 80° weather, they’re throttled down considerably. Because they don’t have native cooling.

a high lumen light bar put in the cabin would cause temperature issues.

also, a light bar behind the glass does cause light loss through the glass.

it also will create a certain degree of glare, no matter how well it it booted/sealed against the windshield

but maybe more critically, as the interior trim design and functionality was improved, and the seating positions improved, there was no longer a reasonable spot for the light bar inside

In the OG prototype, notice where the apex of the cab, the upper end of the windshield, the headliner trim layout, and the relative position of these things are to the driver:

basically, the OG proto had no Sun visors yet, a much thinner sensor stalk/cluster, and only a thin bit of headliner trim up over the head of the driver

compare to the ultimate design necessities of a commercially viable design layout, features (eg sun visors), proportions, and layout compared to driving position / visibility

there’s just really no place to put a contiguous light bar that wouldn’t interfere with visibility, functionality (eg of visors or sensors), etc.

and what’s *not* apparent in the photos is the relative headroom height of the Og prototype apex vs the production headroom. There was just more headroom available for things to hang down

Can't wait to see one 'slammed'.....
Someone is bound to mod the CT to 'Lowrider'
I like the factory 17" underbody clearance, along with the ability to drop to ~8 inches!
Your comment reminded me of these pictures..
