So this PPF shop said it was extremely difficult to get the fingerprints/marks off the CT before it was ready for PPF. They tried many cleaners but had to use an acetone mix.

I drive a lot (100+ miles a day). And mostly Freeway. So Wrap or PPF worries me not just for cost, but that I would basically damage it sooner than many. So stainless/rugged CT was exciting. But if its gonna be like fingerprints/smudges are this difficult to clean, then what do we do? Keep acetone mix handy? haha.

The faster mine gets the fingerprint "patina" all over it, the better. Will be even more badass with signs of daily use.
Not sure why it would look good with finger prints

I just saw another one of those OCD detailers wraps of the black chrome and aside from some issues with the wrap itself not being... OCD, the stainless steel looked really bad, just lots of uneven colors or stains, I'm not really sure. It looks like it may be even already had some scratches. It seems like if you are OCD about your vehicle you're going to be wrapping it. Hopefully you can do it for less than $7,000 and have it not look like garbage.

Also, saw where some folks have applied a ceramic coating to help minimize fingerprints and help make cleaning easier. A DIY ceramic coat may be the most cost effective solution IMO.
I thought you couldn’t apply Ceramic Coat to Stainless Steel? It was confirmed few months ago on here. But obviously if there’s evidence of it being applied now….where tho?

Just don't get the idea of clear PPF on this truck. I have two full Xpel PPF Tesla's and I will not be wrapping or ceramic any of it.

Why:

I think the clear PPF will not look good after time. I have 260 thousand on my PPF'd S. It has had it's hood redone once because of hits, which end up being cuts. Great to protect paint. Don't think it will fair well or look well after 100k.

At 350k on my S I plan on stripping the PPF to bring back to original. Make sure one get's a good installer.

As few of these as are in customers hands to date (35-ish?), sure seems we’re seeing a high percentage and rate of wrapping …

I'd be weary of a shop that can't remove finger prints.

I have had decent success using an orange oil furniture type cleaner to both remove and prevent fingerprints. I have not ever tried it on a vehicle or application with a lot of dust.

I have aqua tan ed with a lot of money and it seems like they do stuff to their vehicles just because it’s trendy/ differentiating. It’s logical to say those buying right now would generally have more funding and may to a larger majority fall into a category of just doing films, tints, wraps etc because it’s trendy and another $6k is no big deal

Hand soap, scrub , hot water rinse, and tissue dry, my glasses are sparkling clean. No need for anything more fancy.

Fingerprints are just smudged grease. Simple soap does the job.
