Go the speed you want and charge when you have to. Don't charge more than 15 mins. That's the fastest way to get where you are going. If you are driving through a charging desert some more thought has to happen, sometimes. Other than that, just drive.

I rarely go over 70 tbh, so no, but I don’t think I would be too concerned about efficiency when I’m going that fast either.

but I have done many multi-thousand mile road trips in my truck and see MUCH better efficiency than your experience - go 70 or less next time? ??‍♂
That's not realistic nor favorable for most on long drives.

Really that's nothing. Put two dogs, a light SO, and 600 lbs of travel gear and ski stuff for a month of powder chasing.

Minnesota a couple weeks ago I pulled a hundred mile stretch where I averaged 804 wh/mi after leaving a supercharger. All warmed up.

-5F and 78mph into the wind sucks electrons.

I love how this thread tells the OP everything they are doing wrong, and to hit a supercharger. Not really addressing the efficiency or lack of.

Edit: added photo on energy usage.
I love how Cyber FSD Karen is yelling at driver in the photo!

That only works in areas with high charger density of high capacity.
OP is dealing with 100+ mile stretches between 150kW chargers. If pulling max for 15 minutes that's at most 37.5kW. To go the 120 miles to the next charger would require an efficiency of 312 Wh/mile. Then they need to get to the actual destination and back to the charger.
When we visit the in-laws, Bay City is the last charger available, so we need to get to over 80 to make it back without any side trips.

The speed limit across interstates where superchargers are located are often 80mph. If one drove 70 they would be laughed at or expected to be pulling something.

Driving 70mph in the winter is possible yet one has to use ample heat. Many times temps are below 0. Not sure one could really be efficient if one wanted to on interstates without looking like an idiot.

Baffling. Though I don’t go 78, try to stick closer to 70…. My wh/mi avg overall is about 345.

AWD on cyber wheels. 19k miles.

I think if you make the same trip when the temperatures are a warmer you'll see a big difference in efficiency. I make a 250 mile loop on an interstate often (75mph) with my beast with stock cyberwheels and I'm not able to complete it without a charge stop now, but I was able to when I picked up my truck in August. I know its annoying, but the slower you drive efficiency really goes up too.

Wow!
I can't hit that with Beast-ATs in winter going 45 on two lane roads.
Best highway with temp in the 20s is 400Wh/mile at 65MPH warmed up, with the wind.

On highway my average speed was around 78mph.
I know from extensive monitoring of my average speed on trips that it is nearly impossible to maintain a trip average of 78 mph without extensive driving of well over 80 mph.

IMO, your efficiency is in line with what should be expected at higher speeds, particularly when the air is below freezing (due to higher air density at cold temps and how that impacts consumption at high speeds).

There is nothing wrong with your truck. You've got to slow down.

A few factors:
  • Beast efficiency is worse than AWD.
  • A/T efficiency is worse than Core wheel/tire package.
So effectively, you've got the least efficient combination of options for a Cybertruck. As your speed increases, these factors are exacerbated. The best thing you can do is set your speed to the posted or plus 5mph.

Think of it this way, if you slow your driving to a point where you have one less charging stop, you'll actually arrive at your destination sooner. It may "feel" slower but the math won't lie. Examine your route in the trip planner and play with your wh/mile estimates and see if it's possible.

Strange, my AWD, all stock aero and wheels, averages just shy of 400 wh/mi at 70-75 mph.

Not a beast though, so I know nothing.
My beast uses 383 wh/mi at 64-68 mph. So, about the same.

THIS. The time you save by driving that much faster is less than half what you spend at superchargers. That doesn't mean I don't drive faster if I feel like and am happy to have longer and more frequent breaks, especially at good charging stops, but that's not an efficiency issue. Also, your wife and family are much less likely to complain about your slower speed than the longer more frequent charging stops. My experience though, with family is that they usually look forward to shop and snack stops.

Aero is murder at those speeds.
Exactly! When I drive below 70mph, I get 386 Wh/mi in Sports mode for Beast. If I drive at 80mph, I get 470 Wh/mi. Most don’t realize how important aero is. It’s not linear consumption. The OP said 78 mph “average”. If he drove at 80+ mph consistently, it’s a range killer, and then people blame on CT’s batteries. It’s physics and nothing to do with CT’s batteries.
