Before EV's are the only vehicles being sold, we need more affordable cars with better range, and a better charging network. We can't just tell people that they either get a car with no range or they have to spend $50,000+ on a vehicle that gets them the range they need. Also Tesla can't be the only option for people who need a better charging network. 4 years might be enough time for the big companies to catch up, but smaller companies won't even be able to begin converting until these things are already in place.
Tesla's most popular vehicles were way below $50K ($35K - $45K).

There are other decent EVs by other brands that are $35K or less.
If Federal incentives are re-instated some will have net costs close to $25K.
Even without incentives some go on sale for less than $30K
Nissan Leaf
Chevy Bolt
Renault Zoe
Hyundai Ioniq Electric
Kia Niro EV

The lack of decent non-Tesla DC fast charging network is 1,000% because of foot dragging by GM, Ford, VW, Toyota. What used to be the tiny Tesla company with much less money than GM or Ford or VW or Toyota did it years ago. GM, Ford, VW, Toyota should not be give a pass on this failure.

Cheapest Tesla is the Model 3 for $39,990 and that's for standard range. you'll need the long range for $48,990 to break 300 miles which is basically what most people aim for when searching for an EV and even then it still sometimes doesn't feel like much when you live in an area with winter.

Those other cheap EV's have even less range than the Model 3 standard range.

Also when it comes to chargers, these other companies probably won't release chargers, if anything they would partner on chargers with third party companies. Tesla isn't just a car company, they are a tech company; adding a charging network was just part of their business. But you don't see ICE companies opening up gas stations under their own names.

My point was NO ICE only vehicles & NO non-plugin hybrids.

All the work truck cases you mentioned could be done with plug-in hybrid (60 mi minimum).
Plug-in hybrid (60 mi minimum) has been economically practical for over 5 years.

All fossil fuel users (including myself) are free-loading on the system. Fossil fuel ICE vehicle prices & fossil fuel user fuel prices do not pay for the health damage done to others.

If fossil fuel ICE vehicle prices & fossil fuel prices were set for reality, years ago BEV prices would have been lower than ICE.
I think you are misinterpreting what I am saying.
Is it possible for an electric vehicle to do all those things? absolutely.
Is it practical for everyone? nope.

You want some contruction worker who has to commute to end up haveing to spend an hour charging his truck every day on his way home just to get enough charge so that he can top up over night? I'd rather that guy pollute the air a little more and make it home to his family at a reasonable time.

You want some taxi/uber driver to spend up to 2 hours at a charger, possibly twice a day, just to be able to continue making around minimum wage or sometimes less? I would prefer they have the option to work instead of wasting that time.

I will agree that we could have advanced to BEV's a long time ago, I've been saying that for the past 10 years. But that doesn't change the fact that there needs to be more time for some companies to realistically make that switch over. The technology for electric vehicles has been around for a very very very long time, but government involvement slows down everything.

Thank god we have someone like Elon that fights for faster advancements. Using starlink as an example, it wasn't welcomed by governments and even now it's banned in quite a few countries. Offering better internet at a cheaper price than competitors can easily shut down massive businesses. It's a great thing, will improve access of information worldwide, and save people money, but it was still met with hostility.

I want to see Tesla make ICE vehicles obsolete, I want to see Starlink pressure big network companies to offer more competitive deals, I even want to see the boring company lead the world towards eliminating unbearable traffic.

It was not all at once. They already had 20 years.
They keep dragging things out and then use the dragged out time as an excuse of why they must take even longer.

There should be NO new ICE or straight hybrid models sold after 2026. There are plenty of ICE & non-plugin hybrid models already developed they should not be developing more models (ie. Ford Maverick non-plugin hybrid). Starting 2027, full BEV or plug-in hybrid (minimum 60mi range). After 2035 no plug-in hybrids either.
If there had been more intensive government regulation and incentives... we could be at a place of an earlier cutoff. Tech could have been forced to advance more quickly. Unfortunately we are at a point of even more urgency now and so are attempting to compress that transition in a shorter time frame. Just a few years ago, 2050 was the target! Because of this, some sacrifices for the public good will be required. Maybe things like summer road trips won't be possible until battery tech/infrastructure catches up. Personally I have zero problem with this, but there will be pushback, I guar-on-teee. The general public doesn't like change or restrictions of any sort.

I just placed my pre-order for Ford Maverick. It is CHEAP, it is a TRUCK and it gives around 40 MPG city driving. I am giving up my 2017 Prius with 50 mpg to get a TRUCK while I am waiting for my CT3.
I market my main points with the bold font that drive this decision.
Do not judge me hard, I just need a TRUCK and do not think I will get my CT3 within the next 2 years...

Thats not a bad plan at all! You will have a ride and get to see how the first CTs perform when they roll off the line. Sell it when your # comes up.

By re-releasing this truck now ?

They see the demise of their popular ICE trucks, and can't get their lighning up to high volume fast enough. ?

Under the circumstances, releasing this low-priced item, may prove a point of difference to the CT and generate its own sales.

It will serve to assist cashflow, but will dry. It keeps their suppliers and production line going for a while longer.

They would have a deep bag of products which we might see come out in the coming years. All low prices niche market stuff. Looks like they want their legacy business to go out on a whimper instead of a bang.

The Maverick is a bridge to a fully electric lineup of trucks (well the hybrid is). F150 Lightning and following on will be the Ranger and Maverick lightning.

I ordered a Maverick Hybrid in June 2021, received it in April this year. It has been flawless... and I am getting ~47mpg. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, some parts feel 'cheap', but mechanically I have no issues.

Based on my CT reservation (made in Jan 2020...approx #480,000) I don't expect to see it come up in the next 3 years, if ever. Tesla seems to be flaying against the EV competitors, I'm not convinced they will survive. They are supposed have the first units rolling off the line within a year and we have yet to see a final design and test vehicles! They just keep parading around the couple of demo trucks they made 3 years ago.

I bought a Maverick in 1988 and had it for 23 years. In the end, I used it as a mule on the farm. It never failed me. Even in its last days, tinny compared to my new car, I still preferred to drive it around. I loved that truck.

Wasn't that a rebadged Nissan Patrol in Australia though?

I hope Tesla makes a smaller-sized Cybertruck, but keeps the same wiper
I’d like to see a new designed wiper. Also mirrors as well. Personally, I would have side mirrors as small as possible and removable too. Anyone who wants to tow will purchase larger mirrors anyways with whats already on the CT now. Seriously, it’s not like the dream team does not have enough time for these two things. Would like to see Tesla come up with something better for CT. So, if it were me, 🤣🤣 I would have them work on this as far as possibly allowed and from the way it’s looking so far, Tesla has plenty of time. Just feels like they threw their hands up and said . Well fuck it. Throw those in and call it good. There is a huge part of me that keeps wanting for the law to change on the side mirrors before CT goes into production. If not? they will come off like the BAW when I get truck. Or how should I say it, if I get the truck. So much competition is ramping up. This can be a real problem for tesla.
