I'm excited to see once a ton of CTs are out there and suddenly all the compalints disappear, because very few people actually drive hundreds of miles in a day, and even fewer choose not to stop at least every 2-3 hours when they do.

It's the same as the made up towing controversy. The talk on this forum could make someone think the majority of folks are hauling Caterpillar excavators hundreds of miles on the daily in their pickup trucks(or Honds CRVs).

Why don't you expect that Tesla will add additional charging along the route? Or one of the government funded chargers will go in?


Yes, you are correct. The charging infrastructure of this country still has a little to be desired. But the simple fact that you had to got 2,000 miles away from your location to find an example of just how good the Tesla network is.

And if you are regularly doing this trip, maybe you should look at a car instead. They use less power per miles (just as cars use less gas than pickups) and will therefore be more economical.

Yes, you are correct. The charging infrastructure of this country still has a little to be desired. But the simple fact that you had to got 2,000 miles away from your location to find an example of just how good the Tesla network is.

And if you are regularly doing this trip, maybe you should look at a car instead. They use less power per miles (just as cars use less gas than pickups) and will therefore be more economical.

One of the great benefits of being in America is the ability to get in your can and go anywhere, most countries do not have that freedom.

There are plenty of sub 500 mile routes in the US right now that a CT may not make without some range adjustments or diving behavior modifications.
I don't think it is outrageous to point out that there are a good chunk of routes out west that if you drive the speed limit you may not make it from one SC to another, could u pull in at a campground and charge for 6 hours on 120v and make it sure, but not what most people want.

You are correct in that many people may never take a 1,200 mile road trip and that is a shame.

I travel +400 miles 4-5 times a year to tent camp with family. It is easy in ModelY but am very much hoping to do the same trips with a lightweight/teardrop TravelTrailer behind CT.

Doesn’t seem like too much to ask.

Careful how you phrase that
You may get scolded and called an EV hater for wanting to tow a trailer more than 40 miles with your CT.


Did you look at the Cybertent option any or not big enough for the family vs a small travel trailer?

CyberTent is not my cup of tea.. barf. ? ? my dog needs easy access to his cozy bed.

CyberTruck on the other hand is fabulous. I still love it with all its shortcomings.

Supercharger locations have expanded massively since I got a car in 2018. It was really bad back then. Only a couple of options on my drives and that was when the max was 150 kw.

Still there are a couple of routes that I drive I wish had more locations. Atlanta to Charlotte could use a few more. And I95 from Jacksonville to Savannah. I hate stopping at Savannah since it's always so busy with tourists.

Exactly!

I'm amazed with the rate at which Tesla is dropping Superchargers in new locations. If you look at the area in question on:

supercharge.info (you may have to enable the display of Superchargers under construction and in permitting stage in the upper left corner)

You will see Tesla has one new 8 stall 250 kW Supercharger location under construction just North of Big Bend National Park (in Alpine, TX) and is in permitting stage for a new 8 stall 250 kW Supercharger location just 6 miles east of the Park in Terlingua, TX.

These will solve the problem of arriving to the Park with nowhere to charge for a multi-day stay.

Every year the edge cases where people have difficulty finding charging become smaller and fewer. We are only a decade into the EV revolution and the buildout of charging infrastructure is accelerating, not slowing down.

When you think of it, it's amazing how much Tesla has accomplished since they installed their first Supercharger less than 12 short years ago! More chargers is what will make EV's ubiquitous, with no changes in driving behavior, not huge honking batteries in every car.

It is indeed going to be interesting to see what happens to the aerodynamics of campers pulled behind the Cybertruck. The impact of something directly behind the truck impacting its laminar air flow has yet to be seen.

I don't think I used the word "Failure" once.
I am bummed about the CT not getting 500+ miles of range, and concerned about towing with it.

As far as "productive" not sure I can impact the truck, but I can be "positive" about good news coming out. Which we have been getting some!

Total kWh are still the same.

The trick with charging is that by going to 800V, you can double the kW being delivered using the same size cables.
