Seriously did not see this coming lol. Snowed, thawed, snowed again then froze to -3 Cannot open cover. No problem. But cannot get tailgate open either. Frozen shut and solid ice. Trying to get it open I used a weed burner at a distance of course and finally was able to pop the gate. OK.,, it's winter. Some sort of heater back there I can turn on and pre heat would be a great option. Anyone have any ideas? I am probably going to just leave cover open after I get it thawed today in the shop. Thanks most excellent people.

Try a mini space heater with a remote. Quality space heaters are hard to find, 99% of them come from China and while some from China are well made most are not.

Maybe something like this: https://amzn.to/4gxy68Q

Outlet position keeps it in a safe orientation. I figure just leave it plugged in during the winter just in case of this ? hopefully it actually works!

I would never attempt to open the tonneau with snow and ice built up on it. That's asking for trouble. Push brooms make quick work of cleaning the snow off.
As far as the tailgate, it's a common problem on trucks with rubber sealed tonneaus against the tailgate. Water seeps down there and freezes.
I usually just stick my finger between the tailgate and tonneau and run it along the back to break up the ice.

Another post that makes me not want to take my CT to the snow :(

It's becoming more and more clear that Tesla did little to no testing in snowy/icy conditions with the CT

People are overreacting. Two mild taps on the tonneau and it opens up np. Brush the snow off like any other vehicle.

Thought about that except it drips and leaks so might be a danger. Maybe some sort of cover for one. It’s a good idea

DUHHH. no kidding? Like I said, this is solid ice. 1-2" thick. My solid Rackpack cover on my dodge is frozen down too. My doors on my other trucks frozen closed. Stay calm. "brushing the snow" does not remove it when its like this.

OOOORRRRR, just leave it open like every other truck and not deal with the cover for a few months. That is what I am doing now. Got it thawed and open. Dried it and it is now rolled up. Just like every other truck.

The point of a tonneau cover is to be able to safely leave stuff in the bed of your truck. If I'm up in the snow for a week and want to leave my gear or other belongings in there, I don't want to have to worry about thawing and forcing my bed open.

Local power washing stall. Ours has water that is heated. I have blasted off ice/dirt chunks for many years. Using the water as a cutter.

Or get this. That's what I got.
