Ugh, that is a majority of the justification for the Foundation Series price. Kind of annoyed that they probably wont change anything for foundation orders.

This is brilliant.

Make it subscription because few people keep their cars for more than 5-8 years anyways.

Plus, FSD in my experience of selling my last Teslas has little to no resale value.

The subscription model has been available for some time, but it was $199/month.
Unless you had EAP, then it was $99.

I wonder if it will now be $49 for those with EAP??

Tough to sell a $12k premium to another buyer when they can toggle it on and off at $99 at their convenience.

Only thing that makes sense is attaching FSD upfront purchases to the individual, which goes with them vehicle to vehicle. Attaching it to the car doesn’t make sense anymore with a cheap sub option.

This is probably just temporarily to get more sign-ups as beta testers. They need more data to train AI. It's not reasonable to keep giving out 1 month of free trials. As of now, no one should purchase FSD outright. $99/month is a better deal and protect you from the risk of losing FSD in an accident if you paid upfront.

is that real? If you total the car, you actually lose full self drive that you paid a ton upfront for?

I bought it for my S for $99 ... test drive ... couldn't tell any difference from when I last had FSD on my previous S, then noticed I'm only on 11.x, no 12.3 yet.

My opinion is this is for supervised FSD only. Full blown $12k fsd will be able to drive with nobody behind the wheel and will allow Robotaxi. The $99 month subscription will not allow Robotaxi.

Yeah, so that makes the current rental price merely equal to buying it outright.

You really think it'll stay that price for ten years?

-Crissa
No, once we actually get level 4-5 autonomous driving it will become much more widely adapted. The price will come down tremendously in a few years of this achievement. It will become a standard feature on mid priced and above vehicles. All of that will likely occur in about the next 10 years.
Now if someone doesn't understand new technology cost and adaptation, I'll sell you a nice home computer for $250,000. LMAO!

Exactly but it will last longer than most will own the car
Uhh... So, you get 50, but remove 49, then you get 49.75 and take out 50, so then you... get 49.5, 49.3, 49.1, 49... etc.

And a year later they raise the price to $199 and you run out in less than 5 years when the average truck is kept 12.5 years.

when did they start calling it supervised?
Last week.

It seems like every company is looking for a subscription base of customers. Everyone is about some monthly amount. The best strategy I can think of with this would be to make it cheap enough that LOTS of people subscribe and start to rely on it to the point that they wouldn’t consider not having it. I bet the next move will be free FSD for a year with a new vehicle purchase or a Month of FSD for test drive referrals. They just need to get it working right, which I think they are there, then get the hook set.
