Voice control. “Slow down” “hey, go a bit faster please? Im in a hurry” kind of like yelling at your Uber driver. Personally, i will be disengaging and reporting the moment it speeds, and likely will be pressing the accelerator when it is going to slow.

+1 on voice control! I should have said voice interaction. I think we should be able to interact with Grok and Grok with FSD. I doubt Tesla will do it but being able to say “slow down” and have it happen makes more sense to me except if others in the car said it in some other context.

We will eventually be able to do that for sure. Providing context to FSD from voice is a late stage development milestone.

The law doesn’t care about software. You are the vehicle operator, regardless of software, if you’re sitting in the driver seat.

People get arrested for drunk driving if they pull over to sleep it off while laying down in a filly reclined driver seat even if the engine is off with the key in the ignition to keep the radio on…

That said, if software legally becomes the operator, then those convicted of drunk driving will be permitted back on the roadway as they’re only forbidden from operating vehicles, but not from being passengers.

I’m not familiar with robotaxi design, but I would assume there is no driver seat.

The legal standard is the presumption you are driving the vehicle if you could be driving the vehicle. If you can’t be driving the vehicle (for example if there is no key in the ignition of an old school car, you’re not operating it). Provable inability to operate the vehicle would obviate restrictions on those forbidden to operate vehicles and prevent one from being held liable for crimes committed while being present in a vehicle they could not operate. And yes, this, like taxes and shooting people, will be a guilty until proven innocent situation where an affirmative defense must be made.
