any other wiper on any other vehicle is just as easy.
Sure it is but no one thinks about vandilizing the wiper because it is always out of sight unless in use. Think of it like the items in the impulse line at your stores checkout line. When they put it in your face its more likely that you buy things you didn't intend to. Its the same with this wiper blade. Its an impulse crime.

Not sure how old you are but when the older cars used to have metal whip antennas on the front quarters they were bent and broken all the time and for no other reason other then it was easy and in their face. It will be prime target for spur of the moment vandles and angry motorists who approach your car and can't reach you through bullet proof glass and no door handles.

Yes, exactly.

Impulse / impulsive, opportunistic or convenience, targets of opportunity.

Radio antenna on fender is great example. Retractable antenna when retracted or antenna on center of roof reduces incidents of vandalized antenna.

Why don't cars have the large easily bendable antenna anymore?
https://www.quora.com

By Alfredo Torrejon
Many cars have replaced the traditional AM/FM whip antenna with a set of traces in the rear windshield, mounted along the rear defroster elements. Doing this achieves several goals. First, this type of antenna is much less likely to be damaged in a car wash or by vandals than a traditional vertical whip.

By Mike Azeka
Cars now use a compact “shark fin" style antenna, that uses a small amplifier to boost the radio signal, so it doesn't need to be very large like the old style “whip" antennas.
Amplified antennas had been around for decades before they became common on cars, most people think they look much better, and there’s no issue with vandalism or car wash damage.

Vandalism Hurts
People feel angry, sad, and frightened when something of theirs — a mailbox, a garden, a car antenna — is destroyed for no reason. Vandalism can indirectly claims other victims — a child is injured because a stop sign was stolen, a person can’t reach 9-1-1 because the public phone is broken.

With standard wipers which have wiper arm horizontal the driver's side main wiper's motor pivot /rotation point is near the side of the vehicle and the wiper tips are near the center of the vehicle (at center base of windshield).

Most wipers are pretty rugged at the pivot point but get much more fragile at the center to the far end.

I am common height and I sometimes have problems changing wiper blades on some vehicles because of needing to lean over large wide hood to grab wiper and fight against wiper's springs that try to keep wiper against windshield.

Force applied to side of wiper arm is more quickly to cause damage to the wiper arm.
When wiper is resting horizontal at base of windshield it is harder for vandal standing by the side of the vehicle. They have to lean over the vehicle (more chance for cameras to get pics) to grab wiper arm and it is awkward position to apply sideways force on the wiper arm.

If the wiper is stored vertical at the A-pillar it is trivial for even a short person to easily grab the wiper arm (no leaning over hood necessary) and easy to apply a great amount of sideways force on the wiper arm and the vandal can much more easily use their body weight in the application of the bending force.

Ogre said it and I turned it into an acronym.

If you read my posts, you might note I am very sparse with the acronyms!

Same here. In fact, I've designated my desk as an NAZ... No Acronym Zone.

Technically "BAW" is an initialism, assuming you pronounce it "bee ay double-u". It's an acronym if you call it "bhawww!"

You call it a B-A-W not BAW?

And c'mon, guys, if I can flip up wipers with a single hand without leaning over, so can most vandals. This is a big bit about nothing.

at least when parked on the street, the wiper will be on the side away from the sidewalk thus putting it further out of reach than most cars' wipers. My truck doesn't hide it's wipers and you can easily reach the passenger side wiper from the sidewalk.

I can just picture the vandal now.
  • Keys the door no effect
  • Kicks the door and hurts their foot with no effect
  • Smashes a rock into the window. No effect
  • Jumps on the hood. Nothing
  • Spies the wiper… and cautiously approaches…

If Sentry mode is on, as soon as the vandal grabs the BAW, Sentry mode turns the BAW on max and the BAW judo flips the vandal into the next block over.

  • Little does the vandal know that we just purchased an aftermarket accessory that electrifies the BAW if tampered with! ZZZZaaaapppp!! :)

Perhaps the BAW can be set at horizontal position when in park.
