I can understand If they stay on while you are in the truck or working around near the truck. but you've walked away from the truck already. I can't think of a single scenario where you would want to leave your lights on all night or until it completely drains your battery and gets you into even worse problems associated with a completely dead battery. under normal everyday use this would never be necessary and the risk of leaving them on and forgetting outweighs the benefit of this feature by a whole lot. on the other hand, I can think of lots of scenarios where you would want to leave the radio on while you work or play near the truck, but you can't even get out without shutting off the radio. someone have a good reason for being able to leave lights on while you are somewhere else away from the truck.
Parking lights are intended to stay on for safety while parked, making them turn off would entirely defeat the purpose. Some places legally require you to turn on your parking lights if you're parked on the side of a high speed road.

You're using something in a way that's not intended, parking lights are for parking, not for driving.

To remain visible. For safety.

That’s the primary purpose of this setting even existing. They’re parking lights. For use when parked. I’d be ultra annoyed if they turned off when I walked away.

the main example I’ll use is pulled over on the side of a snowy dark road, assisting someone in another vehicle. Or even dark road in general. Never a safe situation, but the park lights will allow the vehicle to be easily seen. I’ve left them on for 5+ hours before and didn’t even notice a few % drop.

I can’t imagine how many days the parking lights would have to be on to do any meaningful drain on your battery. I’m guessing they could remain on for over a month, as long as sentry wasn’t running. Im half tempted to leave mine on tonight just to see how much they use.

Also if not on Auto and are set for parking or just On, the Tesla vehicle will make an audible beep at you when opening the door to exit the vehicle, as a reminder that hey something was left on are you certain you want this?

Meaning it’s warning you that the lights were left to anything other than Auto.
I am not 100% but I believe mine also has a small alert in text pop up stating lights are on along with the beep beep beep quick tone.
This is the same for all of my Teslas including the Cyberbeast - even my 2016 Model S has this feature.

Change to auto and you will have no worries about the lights. They will stay on for a bit and turn off.

Switch to camp mode if you want to jam out when you exit the vehicle.

you know I tried the camp mode, and it didn't work for me. Radio still turned off when I closed the door. only tried it once so I'll try again today.
another thing that annoys me is the navigation will constantly interrupt my music. for the verbal directions I would rather silence the audio interruptions and keep the music on.
Is there a way to do that?
I seen (Joe mode) but not sure if that's what it does?

Mute them. I would tell you how, but I really think you should spend more quality time with the manual than on the forum. ?

You seem very angry about parking lights staying on when parked… ?
I understand your point and I know about the parked on the side of the road rule. but in all these cases you would be in your car or near your car. but you don't need the lights on if your gone and left the scene. In my 37 years driving and I've had jobs that required me to drive a lot at all hours of the day wherever the job was, all over west and central USA states I have never seen a car on the side of the road unoccupied and the lights are all on only lights that i have seen are hazard lights because that's what they are for!
And if you dont drive while parking? how the hell do you park without driving.
I never said I was driving with my parking lights on like on the road as you misunderstood.
I said I used them while Parking. operative word is parking that means present tense not past tense otherwise they would be called "parked lights"
If there is such a rare case where you need to leave your car somewhere with the lights on permanently. And that it should be made obvious to the user that they will not automatically turn off until all power has been consumed. And it doesn't matter how long it will take or how slow it will drain your battery. Anything that can be forgotten and can drain your battery to leave you stranded is a bad idea especially with electric cars! It's not a problem at all with gasoline engines with the old 12v system your lights will kill the juice in a few hours and that's cool because that's all you'll ever need but in a system that can support powering the lights for a few days is just something unnecessary and I'm sure unintentional.

If you are leaving the scene, your lights should be in Auto. If you are helping someone along the roadway in the dark, having them in Park would be correct. Also, the vehicle will lock when you are more than 5-10' away.

All in good fun, friend. I’m “passionate” sometimes, too.

So then if I understand what your saying correctly the name for the lights is just wrong right?
like they should be called shoulder-aid-lights, or emergency lights or or or I got a better one hazard lights. The example you use your not technically parked at all because you are on the side of the road and in or near your car. you are not planning on leaving your car there as in a parked or stored garaged car would be.

While the nav is speaking, the volume scroll-wheel applies. You can adjust it all the way down.

On the map, there is a control for nav options, and you can set the voice volume as desired. I have it off, since I let FSD do the driving.

Apparently, you can turn on the parking lights.
walk away from the car it will lock the doors and turn off the car.
turn on the alarm indicated by the chirp and close the windows, but the lights will never go off!
I can see a use case for this, I did this constantly as a delivery driver, especially in dark exurbs. I'd probably do this while camping and setting/breaking camp in the dusk or dawn.

(Only reason I never do this in my Mazda is for some reason the dash displays go to FULL BRIGHT when parking lights are on. I kinda wish they didn't, I often want to save my night vision when it's dark out but not use the headlights.)

Parking lights are for use in parking lots, hazards are for use on the road. Both help you spot your vehicle when you return to it in the dark! And help others not collide with your vehicle.

I can’t imagine how many days the parking lights would have to be on to do any meaningful drain on your battery. I’m guessing they could remain on for over a month, as long as sentry wasn’t running. Im half tempted to leave mine on tonight just to see how much they use.
My Zero, with its measly 8.5 kWh battery and incandescent lighting, would have to leave the lights on on for more than three days to run down the battery.

just turn off the navigation volume (tap the three dots by the destination, then select settings). Do you ever do research, look at the owners manual, or just complain?
