I kinda wonder, when the configuration goes live in march (manifesting)….

Will They require a larger no refunds amount?

Will we pick our options?

Will we get any kind of “delivery window”?

Wasn’t around for any other model releases. Help me out?

I bought mine after pre order was over but I think it will just be like order process. Only difference is they have a gate to get into the config page. You get into the config page build your truck, drop $1,500 and wait. When delivery comes due, you arrange payment and bang, you get a truck.

Do you remember how far in advance they had a config? Kinda different cause it was what was announced it seems based on my research

edit

Config went live when they announced it. Deliveries began 10 months later in January 2020.

Maybe we get the configuration site whenever they announce the “real” truck.

Geez how long after launch did you order?

I’m really curious where our preorders stand. Do they mean anything at all? What?

I bet we get a spot in line but have to convert to preorder by ____ date and your spot for fulfillment is quicker the fast you make your real order (ie make the non refundable $$$$ payment)

I have not heard of this $1,500. When I reserved my Model Y there was a $2,500 reservation fee (as opposed to our $100 reservation fee) but I cancelled before they opened up the configuration page. When we ordered our Model 3 and later our Model Y I do not recall Tesla trying to or offering any upsells. When they are ready for your number they send you a note to sign documents and arrange payment. When that is done they set up the delivery appointment.

Well, we can only compare to what they did before.

Will They require a larger no refunds amount?
With S, 3, and Y, they did not. With the first Roadster and the Plaid, they did - after specs changed. It reshuffled the line.

Will we pick our options?
Yes, that's how a configurator works. You'll also get a delivery estimate when you pick the options, which can change your place in line - and your price.

Will we get any kind of “delivery window”?
Yes, but it's be a range of months or years.

Wasn’t around for any other model releases. Help me out?
Sure!

With the 3 and Y, they sent invites in batches, based upon reservation date. They tried to upsell to the performance model and options, offering most of them earlier. Their enticement rules shifted around, sometimes focusing on profit, sometimes focusing on numbers out the door.

With the Y, some people chose a model in the configurator that was never made. Tesla dragged their feet on getting them an equitable price on a different model, but they've since changed their process to make sure people can get a delivery.

But at the same time, some people deferred their delivery multiple times, trying to get their early-adopter price on a later model car. And that's kinds not cool.

Anyhow: As the configurator opens, batches will be allowed in, we'll get details on features, then delivery dates will happen, and we'll get more details. They've always delivered the first few thousand to the X companies' employees, people they can NDA. Then it'll be reservations at the launch. Then us!

you think our reservations are mildly useless then? Sure sounds like it. And that, helps me.

I imagine a good chunk of people will fall off any guesses on what we will see there? Such a vast amount of time followed from initial unveil to now. Lives have changed. Heck, some reservations are probably dead given all that’s gone down over that period of time.

No, I think they're basically a place in line. As long as they can fill orders and ship every truck they make from the line, they will use it over selling to the general public. Once they start having trucks that aren't bought by people in the line, though, they will sell them outside the line.

I mean we configured configs that don’t seem to exist any longer though? You don’t think that means lines gonna start over?

Maybe they’ll go in line order for who wants to configure / cancel. That’ll then lock you in?

We didn't configure anything. It was basically a poll to see where the demand/price curve was.

The car configuration actually happens when its being built in 2023. 3 years ago we were asked to register our interest and put $100 down to tell Tesla which one we wanted first with what configuration.

Forgot to reply to this before.

Based on the way Model 3/ Y orders go, you are either in the list of people who can order or not. You can sit on your order for weeks before pulling the trigger or pull it right away. Gives you a chance to set up financing.

Think of it like a club and the pre order list is the queue to get into the club. Once you are in the “I can order my truck club”, you are inside. You are in until you get your truck. Once the queue of preorders empty, they open the doors to everyone.
