My comments were in regards to a post about possibly cancelling a CT order because of something EM said online, implying a moral decision. So, as I’ve posted before, I believe in having morals, but I don’t believe there is any company with nothing but execs with the highest morals. Even large religious organizations have scandals about ethics and legality. Everyone views the issue differently, you might consider it optics, someone else poor choices, another says lack of morals, and yet another says it should be illegal. And some people make financial decisions and business decisions based on those thoughts. I fear that people make decisions on what they see, and then are aligned with even worse, but they just don’t see it.

IMHO Elon is great. I’m a fan and will gladly purchase his vehicles.

that someone could find something distasteful and unbecoming, if only because it’s said aloud in public by a management member, doesn’t have to reduce down to a philosophical ‘moral’ position

if a door-to-door salesman included that meme in his pitch to sell me gutter cleaning, just because I don’t buy his services doesn’t mean I’m taking a meaningfully moral stance on the salesman’s character as a human

though if I did, I wouldn’t be blameworthy myself


which to me is the philosophical irony of your argument: to take your use of the concept of ‘morality’ and turn it upon yourself, you see that your critique boils down to saying: ‘someone is morally blameworthy if they think someone else is morally blameworthy’

I agree. I think Tesla threatens not to sell you another vehicle, and to cancel any deal they think might be for resale.

Tesla wasn't really "around" before Elon Musk, only in name.

Before Elon, there were two other founders who wanted to start an electric car company. They actually registered a name for it, Tesla. Tesla had no car design, no shop to build them in, no tooling, no batteries, no motors, no money, no customers, no suppliers, no office, no nothing but a registered name and the idea to build electric cars. Then the three of them teamed up and got to work.

In otherwords, it's a false narrative that Elon hasn't been there since the beginning. Sure, he missed out on registering the name. Big deal.

I think you need to brush up on Tesla history. When Musk joined Tesla, they had no debt, no money, no equipment, no facilities, no car designs, they had nothing but a shell of a "company" called Tesla.

You are confusing when Musk was forced to take over the role of CEO during production of the Roadster, so he could control expenses, with when Musk and his two partners started the company. Musk knew they had to run a lean ship or they would drown in debt and never be able to offer the consumer good value (when they got to the mass-market car). Musk knew they had to minimize the amount of debt they had when they were ready to ramp production. Musk had joined the company years previous.

This misinformation exists because people who wanted to tarnish the reputation of Musk created the false narrative that Musk was not a founder of Tesla. He was very much a founder, because when Musk joined Tesla it was nothing but a name.

When a court ruled on this very point, when the court ruled that Musk was indeed one of the original founders, the Musk haters went crazy and started to repetetively claim that a court ruling cannot make a non-founder a founder.

The whole thing seems silly to those who know the facts, which is why people don't spend much time correcting the false narratives, but seeing how many people get it wrong makes me think maybe we should spend more time to correct the rampant misinformation spread by the haters.

This just shows how effective misinformation is when it's repeated often enough and that is what is at the core of how effective these cretins have been at convincing people that Musk is somehow a bad person. Just repeat negative lies over and over until the dumbest 50% start to believe that Musk really must be a bad person or so many people wouldn't be saying it. It's the oldest playbook in the world, just keep repeating the lies until they sound both reasonable and probable. I mean, if they weren't true then so many people wouldn't be saying it, right?

Sorry, my phrasing was poor. I should have said "when he took over", not "when he joined. I dont think he's a bad person, nor that he's not responsible for what his companies have achieved.

I'm a man of my word, I don't plan on breaking the contract I signed. If you think you might, don't sign it and everyone behind you moves up one place in line. I'm hoping the contract contains this clause, and it causes a mass exodous of multiple reservation holders and we all move up thousands of places in the line.

Nah, I'm not giving up my spot. I actually reserved 2, and would buy both with the hope I could resell one of them for $$$. Not sure I'd want to sit on it for a year though. I hope we do have lots of cancellations since CT took so long and people went elsewhere. I reserved mine on launch day, hoping I get a call in December

GM does not make its own batteries. They're made by LG, which is a South Korean company, in the US. Lightning uses SK batteries, also a South Korean company and also made in the US.

Didn't Ford loose the State funding for a battery plant in Virginia because the operator was a Chinese firm, CATL? Doesn't CATL operate Ford's battery plant in Michigan? Ford announced a venture with SK in 2022, but I have not heard that a plant was actually built.

Tesla partners with Panasonic here in Reno for batteries. Panasonic is a Japanese firm and most of the employees at Giga 1 are Panasonic employees. Actually, all the Lithium with Cobalt comes from China because Cobalt was classified as a "conflict mineral" by Obama. Want to get very rich? Find a significant Cobalt deposit here in the good old USA.
