I would not be surprised at all if Tesla were the customer for a second GP but don’t assume. That would put Cybertruck capacity in the 500k - 800k range (WAG).
Which I think means pricing not scary. But also, long list and other vehicles can use this.

if it’s red like that, almost positive that signifies tesla

It makes business sense for redundancy reasons. If the single Giga press goes down for maintenance or suffers a mechanical/hydraulic issue Cybertruck production would come to a halt. Either that or stockpile a ton of front/rear castings to reduce risk.

I was speaking exclusively to idra and their build. Other products are silver and blue

Sandy Monroe had said Tesla would need two 9k Gigapresses for the CT in a recent interview. Soooo... this should be #2?

I suspect they'll also use it for the front casting, checks out for the 250k production volume Tesla has guided.

Hmmm... So can the 9k at Austin right now do both front and back castings while this one gets prep'd, tested, packed, shipped, etc.?

If not, I'm even happier my placeholder MYP arrives in 10 days.

There isn't a functioning 9k @ GT to do that either way, but... That'd be a TON of work to change out molds like that all the time. Some of us think they may do front casting with a 6k, but Munro claims hey can't / won't.

2 presses would put production 450,000+ which is what we should expect given Elons 3 years timeline to 'catch up'.

It also makes sense if you want to have volume.. you have to gear for volume.

I expect contingency to also come from other 9t installed in China and Germany

About 9000t of work? :cool:

The molds won't last forever and need to be replaced on the fly, so maybe 1-2day turnaround? The point is I hope they can do either for redundancy just in case machines stop working.

Gosh that was one of the worst Monroe interviews I've seen. Was like he was being blind sided with nondescript questions he struggled to answer.

The only real "new" peice of information was that a paint shop can cost up to $3b, I thought it was around $1.5b.

I'm not sure CT needs a 9k press for the front, if you look at MY there's nearly half the material in the front cast, and the amount of material used in the cast dictates the press size. I can't see the CT front cast ever being as big as the rear one, so paying for a 9k that is underutilised doesn't make sense to me.

Monroe also said it would use an 8k, so that would indicate that if there are 2x 9k presses than both would be for the CT rear cast production, and would have production numbers accordingly, and more 8k or smaller for the front casts are on the way or already there.
