Are you saying that for $12K Full Self Driving should be a lifetime service tie to the original purchaser? Wouldn't that create a different value proposition for a 21-year-old compared to a 70-year-old?

How many years do you think one purchase should cover you for?
Especially if your car is totaled and you're getting the same model... They don't have to be tied to the person and move to any vehicle or model they ever purchase. Just simply, car got destroyed, move license to new car. Just like Dirac does with AVRs. It's not a big deal.

In your ideal world, would this be good for repeated free replacements, as long as your car was totalled every 8-10 years, or would there be some kind of time limit or number of transfers limit?

And what do you have against simply insuring FSD with the vehicle (so your insurance company covers the cost of the software associated with the car when it's totaled)?

USAA was a $10 drop from $115 to 105
Can anyone use USAA?

Typically, USAA requires customers to be members of the military themselves, although eligibility also extends to the children (or spouse) of military members as well. Therefore, it's our understanding that siblings are likely not eligible to get their own policy.Aug 3, 2023

The buyer has multiple options:

1) Don't buy the feature
2) Buy the feature but insure the value of it with your insurance policy
3) Buy the feature but don't insure the value of it with your insurance policy
3) Don't buy the car
Or…

5) “Rent” FSD. (I think you have 2 #3s up there…)

As I recall, it has been an option to get FSD for $199/month. Which means that for 5 years, you’re money ahead. After 5 years, you have to figure in the value of the money you didn’t give to Tesla, and how much longer you are going to keep your CT.

Good catch! But the monthly price of FSD is not "locked in", it can change at any time. I suspect the monthly fee, once FSD can drive without human oversight, will cost many times the $199/month that Tesla is currently charging for FSD beta.

Renting FSD is a good solution for those who just want to experience or experiment with it, but it gives you no advantage going forward. If you purchase FSD, you will get all the FSD updates for the life of the car (and at a much lower price than it will be when it's solved).

A lot of people like option #6, which I didn't list:

6) Buy the non-transferable feature and then complain endlessly that it's a non-transferable feature.

Does anyone have an insurance quote yet?
Yep. 2 drivers with good driving records (me and my wife). Current insurance is on 2 Model Y Long range. Insurance is currently $168/mo for us. Swapping my MYLR changes the insurance to 178/mo. USAA insurance.

This is a pretty silly thread because insurance rates will vary more depending upon your address, your driving record, your age and marital status, and other basic factors than it will based upon which $100,000 vehicle you drive.

The quotes posted are pretty meaningless and all over the board.
Very true unless you are getting Tesla Insurance except in CA where they are unable to use tele-metrics for insurance based premiums.

USAA, Nevada, only major accident was in 2011. No tickets. Currently a Model X and Model S. Roughly 15k miles/year on the S, 10k on the X. Replacing the S with the CT DROPS my insurance about $240 annually.
