Is Cybertruck stainless steel body magnetic?

Hi fellow Cybertruck fans/reservation holders.

Does anyone know if the Cybertruck is going to be magnetic? In other words will Magnets cling to the sides/rear of the Cybertruck?

If anyone has seen 1 in person has anyone thought of seeing if a magnet sticks to it? I have some ideas of what/how I want to decorate my Cybertruck and would like to know before I get it, which will still be a while. If anyone knows I would appreciate the feedback.

interesting question! 304 steel alloy is a non-magnetic "Austenitic stainless steel" . 304L is just a lower carbon version of it, so i imagine it is also non-magnetic. Depends on the crystal structure of the iron in the steel. Sounds like cold working the 304 might make it more magnetic at the points of work, so we will have to see!

The DeLorean is not magnetic. I would be surprised by a magnetic Cybertruck.

I am betting it wont' be magnetic itself. But if there is something behind it that is magnetic it will easily pass through it. I have a generic piece of 3mm stainless steel. It is not magnetic but if you place a regular piece of steel on one side and magnet on the other it will stick pretty well.

Im betting underneeth most of the steel will be aluminum (also non-magnetic) . There may be some magnetic grades of steel in the B and C pillars and some other areas of the BIW, but probably not a lot. Lol adding a magnet to my delivery road trip packing list!

I highly doubt that the exterior SS skin is magnetic.

I’m betting that the entire BIW is 100% assembled from different grades of steel because of strength requirements.

It will really depend on the grade of Stainless and how much nickel content it has. When we fabricate SS we often use a strong magnet to tell if it 304 or 316. With 304 being partially magnetic especially if it's roll formed or folded, whereas 316 is not. It's in no way strong enough to attach something on 304, but you can feel it.

So I wouldn't count on any useful form of using magnets to attach things to the SS skin. Suction cups or double sided tape etc would be the only removable choices.

Maybe the science portion of this thread is going over my head. I currently have a Dodge Ram 1500, with a magnetic bumper “sticker” of my favorite football team logo on the tailgate (painted body panel, not chrome bumper). It sticks on just like it would the refrigerator.

Are you saying that magnetic “sticker” will stick to my Ram and refrigerator, but not to my metal hunk of CT?

Stainless Steel is not normally magnetic, and only slightly if it is. Your refrigerator likely has a "faux" stainless steel look cover on the door, that has a normal steel backing, which makes it magnetic.

Appreciate the clarification. Still, there are a lot of practical applications to having a magnetic exterior on a truck like this. Not the least of which would be magnetic cup holders everywhere for tailgates

The CT certainly turns heads. One might say it’s somewhat magnetic.
