As many of you know it is illegal for direct factory to consumer sales. A dealership network is required to protect the consumer in Texas and will be at least until Texas legislature meets again in 2 years. Is there some way Tesla could find a creative legal loophole to still allow us to do factory pick-up and tours?

?

Well I'm no expert so I put it up to the city council again to try and help us. Besides, it's in their best interest to have successful companies selling out their city's front door, not sneaking them out to New Mexico or wherever.

You can put in your 2 cents also!!

Here's my message:

Subject: Tesla Truck Factory
Message: Thank you for all you do to help preserve the culture and community with parks and landmarks yet also invite new progressive companies like Apple and Tesla. You may be aware that Tesla is unable to direct sale their vehicle to residents. This is a great disadvantage to your city as thousands more visitors would otherwise be traveling to your city to pick up their trucks. Texas legislature did not seize the opportunity to help you. Now more than ever it is important to find a way to help Tesla deliver these vehicles to residents and visitors who would like to come visit your great city.

Politically, Texas is a big Red ocean with with a tiny little Blue dot over Austin. With the state legislature here, the City and State are constantly getting into pissing contests. For instance, Austin made it illegal to provide free disposable plastic shopping bags at grocery stores, in order to cut down on plastic waste. People just started bringing their own durable (canvas, etc.) bags to avoid paying the 10¢/bag or whatever. So the Texas legislature stepped in, and made it illegal for cities to regulate plastic bags. Nice eh? (Most people keep bringing their own bags anyway, as I do.)

I'm sure Austin would love to tackle the Tesla-sales problem, but they are powerless to override state law or to influence the legislature.

The Governor can call an Emergency Session, where Emergency="We need more votes this fall" but I don't think this qualifies.

Not sure how enforcement of this law works, but if Tesla flouts it, you can be sure the local dealerships will release the hounds.

Oh man, is it against website rules to post legal stuff or government policies? That would be a bummer.

I think the forum rules is to not argue about it.

Promoting EVs is something that's generally agreed-upon here.

Sales in Texas is different than delivery, so who knows, really?

What I want to know is, with this huge natural ecopark with butterflies and birds and horny toads, where the deer and maybe some Texas Longhorns will roam, who's (and how) are they going to keep the rattlesnakes in check? Texas Rattlesnake Roundups? Or have those been banned now? My aunt was so fast (and foolish) that she'd grab them by the tail and whip-snap their necks before they could even think of biting her. Never did get bitten. I was only brave enough to do it with rubber snakes though...... maybe that was her secret! But seriously, Texas is a rattlesnake haven and I doubt granules or snake fencing is going to do the job. Rent snake leggings and snake sticks to guests?

Why? Don't step on 'em and they don't bother you. I like rattlers. They tell you where they are.

-Crissa
Have you ever walked past one? One doesn't need to step on them to get bitten, and one can't always hear rattling with ambient noise, nor do rattlers always rattle before striking. Have you ever had one slither into your sleeping bag at night unannounced? Or climb into your boot? Bet you wouldn't like those! I caught rattlers as far back as the 8th grade. I have a healthy respect for them, especially after seeing the damage they can do to limbs. I keep a wide berth, but it isn't always possible in some brush and terrains. Like them if you wish; that's your choice. I was thinking of all the families who may think they are coming for a Disney styled natureland without considering the potential danger that lurks in the Texas scrubland. Like 'em, love 'em, do as you wish. Be my guest. My best friend kept them as pets, but they are dangerous, and illegal in some areas and for good reason.

Yes. I've been warned, I've been struck at, last one I surprised while climbing a cliff. Poor thing had just shed, so it was super-scared. But it was sooo pretty: Never saw one so lime colored before. I stepped back immediately and it went for my shovel, but missed. Always have a good poking stick!

Just keep making consistent noise and they'll do the same. They keep down the rodents, too. Important for us and the ecosystem, since we have a habit of unintentionally feeding the rodents!

You shouldn't be bringing them into your home or outside their natural areas, of course. That's what cats and gopher snakes are for.

I'm well acquainted with snakes. Rattlers aren't the only snakes that control rodents. They aren't the only ones that can kill you. I have spent time in Panama where the Fer-de-Lance abounds. Much more deadly and fast than any Rattler. I almost picked up a Cottonmouth in my garage before I realized what it was. I shooed it out with a broom. Not everyone who may enter the nature park there will be as aware and as experienced as you are, children in particular. I was almost eaten by a Great White Shark off Manhattan Beach when I was in the 8th grade too as was my rattlesnake keeping friend while surfing. Just because we weren't eaten that day doesn't make those sharks any less dangerous and somebody else may have become lunch or dinner further down the coast that day. 'Poking stick'? Is that anything like poking a bear or a mean dog? LOL!

I was under the (possibly false) impression that Texas to Texas factory to consumer sales were illegal. So if I'm purchasing from California, would it still be illegal to pick up my order in Texas?

Something tells me that Telsa didn't invest billions of dollars without some kind of backdoor agreement.

Remember that competition between Austin and Tusla OK? I'm certain Tesla would have negotiated that elephant in the room. That being said, as soon as there is confirmation that we can pick up in Austin I am booking my flight so I can then drive my CT back to Cali.

25 plaid S models were picked up during an event. Bodes well for out of state order can legally pick up but does not indicate Tesla wants to offer.
Come on Tesla, let me launch from the track too even though I have a dual ordered.

Don’t know if Texas offered a special permit for the pickup or Tesla ignored the laws.
